    Maddy

"Well I can cut our new work clothes out of the storage compartments at the back and get some water purification tablets." Maddy nodded as he spoke, but made sure that she didn’t make eye contact with him; being this close to him was scary enough. She looked down the slope he was pointing too. "You might want to us that water once purified, it's got a longer laster source. As for the first aid kit..." Maddy looked at a young male. He was not as tall as most males and he was lean with a darkness to his appearance that Maddy couldn’t help but find attractive. She didn’t know if he had listened in, but asked, hopefully loud enough for him to hear. “Could you get the water?”

Maddy watched the one with the axe point in the distance and looked that way herself too where the other part of the ship was. "The front part of the ship had the only medical kits. They were the ones that had control after all." Maddy sighed. That was definitely a problem. How was she supposed to help all these daywalkers without medical supplies? Maddy shrugged, she was going to have to try as there really was no other choice. She watched the male with the axe disappear back into the ship.

She turned around to where the other’s where and suddenly it hit her. Surely there were daywalkers in the ship who were not dead, but also weren’t able to get out on their own. They would be hurt badly, but they would be alive. To nobody in particular Maddy said “What about the ones still in there? The ones that are not dead, but can’t walk?”

(The first question is obviously intended for Kamisama, but anyone who was close enough to hear could respond. The second question isn't meant for anyone especially, so anyone who wants to jump in feel free)

    -Lana-

Now that she was free of the ship and no longer in immediate danger of being burned or trampled, Lana began to feel the aches and pains from the crash as well as simple mental exhaustion. The wrist that had been manacled throbbed as though sprained, and there was a burning sting where her shoulder had been scraped. And there were numerous cuts and scratches that, minor on their own, together were somewhat distracting. What she really needed to do was sleep, but that wasn’t an option right now.

“Looks like going back that way might be a good thing, then.” Lee pointed at the trail the ship had left, almost perfectly bisecting the plateau. “See what we can scavenge...if there’s anything left.”

Lana nodded, glancing back over her shoulder at the wreckage. It looked as if the front part of the ship had broken off, and there was no sign that it had slid further down the ravine - no rocks were loose, no trails in the ground, nothing that had even threatened the precarious balance of the wreck they had escaped from. If it was further back along the plateau, it might be relatively intact with some supplies.

“Where are we going to sleep?”

Glancing down at Lee, Lana gestured around. “Right here. Think of it like ... a camping trip.”

Camping. Hah. Camping implied tents, torches, sleeping bags and other necessities for survival. They had half a burning wreckage, a mountain, and a selection of prisoners who didn’t exactly go in for teamwork and trust games.

“We need to try and find the front of the ship,” she added. “There might be stuff in there we can use. Food, blankets, whatever.”

(Off topic - my goodness people, two pages of RP'ing in one "night", from my perspective anyway. I reiterate my annoyance with time zones.)

    --Tueurnino--

All the other female prisoners swarmed towards a hole appearing in the wall. More than one of them had received a lovely cut of two for their troubles, so Tueurnino waited off to the side for the traffic to clear. A couple others from the retrained area waited back as well, but she had no interest in talking to them. At last the others had gone, and she carefully drew herself through the hole.

A man with an axe was standing there - he was the interesting one, with the tattoos. Only moments after she had escaped though, he ducked back into the ship. Left alone, she made her way to where the other prisoners were standing. There was some talk about finding medical supplies, but others were dealing with that. Tueurnino sat down on a slightly less uncomfortable looking fragment of ship, and waited to be told what to do.

    --Ithika Uli--

Uli moseyed around the low side of the ship, checking the debris holding it from skidding, in his own mind still pretty intent on making it roll. This also put him a bit out of the immediate hubbub, which he didn't mind, no one seemed to remember he existed, which was a total blow to the vain old warrior he often imagined himself to be. "Mutiny, Captain," he muttered, "Just like the in the land of the Lotus-Eaters." He almost slipped deeper into hallucination but caught himself. "This is going to get serious. Get a grip."

The crowd around to the front, those that weren't feeling Conan's muscles, were getting up an expedition to the ship's nose to look for supplies. They'd probably find them too, they were a bunch of the young, skinny, and lucky, the sort who just had things fall into their laps. Like fire axes on a space ship. Or even surviving the force required to make a two mile skid. How much was that anyway, to push say 50 tons minimum, two miles, against what had to be like .9 friction? Surely enough to make anything fleshy flat as road kill. Pays to be lucky.

As he wandered further aft, Uli picked up a few likely pieces of debris. He found a piece of lightweight pipe about as tall as himself, a hunk of thruster feed maybe, really strong. He needed something to lean on. Around the crushed pod he got a lot of thin line, some kind of optical control wiring, he guessed. There was also some kind of mesh strapping which had attached components and he got some lengths. He'd been picking up sharp bits all along and tried them for cutting on this or that, keeping some that worked comfortably. He found some membranish liner to wrap sharps before stowing so they wouldn't cut his bag. He worked rather diligently to get off a square patch of light white metal, inspection cover or something.

Supplies were well and good but eventually they'd have to turn to nature. Uli started thinking about amino acids. In the old days off world he always started his thinking there. Just took one little difference and …

Uli had kind of amble mused to the back of the ship. Fire had wrecked everything here and a hatch stood askew. A man's figure lay motionless half out, the back of the guard garb he wore about half charred. Uli couldn't see if he was alive. A rifle barrel protruded from under him. Uli looked around carefully. He saw no one, but heard a soft footstep coming from above his head. He remembered seeing Elpenor up there.

    --Kamisama--

After looking around for something that he could use as a bow, like a branch, Kamisama had to come to the conclusion that he wouldn't be finding it just yet. All he could do was try to be friendly and helpful to get on the others' good side, and if bad came to worse, at least he could defend himself with aikido. The good thing about that particular martial art was that he could defeat people without hurting them... well without hurting them too much.

As he was walking on the roof, his eyes met the big old man's. Fruitsy. Kami couldn't prevent a smile every time he saw him. How in the world did someone like him end up on this ship ? He looked harmless. But then again, Kami caught him talking to himself at a few occasions, who knew how mentally stable he was and what he was capable of doing.

In any case, Kami slew down the side of the ship and landed not too far from the female area. Most of them were out now and seemed to be discussing on the next thing to do. He saw the tiny girl he remembered from before and decided to stick around to see if he could understand what was going on. Kobito would be how he would refer to her for now until he grasps her real name. She seemed to have a problem talking to the big dude; no eye contact, small voice. Shyness ? Not exactly. Fear ? Kind of. Both ? Yea, let's go with both.

    “Could you get the water?”
Kami was brought back from his thoughts when he realized she was talking to him. No... no no no, don't talk to me, I don't understand what you want to say. Wadaa ? What's a wadaa ?!?
"Aimu soli" he started in what he tried to make sound like English, "Ai.... I don't understand anything you guys are talking about...", he finished in Japanese.

Kami really wanted to do something, but couldn't figure it out. He wanted to bang his head on the ship's side. Maybe if he could get some gesture to go with it.
"Wadaa jeschiaa ?", he tried, moving his hands in random gestures, trying to gesture the word gesture....

    Notes:
1- Kobito (小人) means "small person". Not as in dwarf, but as in... Maddy lol.
2- Please see my post in Affairs to know how to decipher my character's speech.

    Maddy

Maddy heared one of the other girls speak. “We need to try and find the front of the ship. There might be stuff in there we can use. Food, blankets, whatever.” From where she was Maddy said to her, hoping she would hear. “The first aid kits are supposed to be up there.” Maddy wasn’t sure if the girl had heard her, but refocused her attention on the one she had asked for water.

When he spoke Maddy realised that he didn’t understand her question, just like she didn’t understand his response. Ai, she understood, and when he started gesturing he looked so funny that it made her smile. She couldn’t really help it, no matter how scared she felt. There was something different about him. He was not a daywalker, at least he didn’t sound like one, but he was not a shadow either; that puzzled Maddy.

Maddy pointed to a cut she had on her arm. She turned her hand into an imaginary cup and pretended to scoop some water from an imaginary bowl. “Water”. She then pretended to throw the water on her cut and acted as though she was cleaning the wound. If that wasn’t going to do it, she turned her hand into an imaginary cup again and pretended to drink from it. “Water”.

    --Kamisama--

Kamisama clapped his hands together in understanding as the meaning of "water" was now clear. "Wataa!" he repeated to himself. He then proceeded to go back in the ship and came back with a metal object that could be seen as a bucket if you had lots of imagination. "Wataa.. ta.. teer.. Water... ter... Damn, that's a hard sound to make... taa... terr.. water...", he was mumbling to himself while walking energetically towards the slope. He looked down. Ouh, quite a ride down. Kami took a deep breath, rose a fist over his head and yelled "WATAAA !!" then slightly jumped down. Again, aikido saved his ass from that stupid move. Without a nice understand of balance and equilibrium, he would have made it down on every body parts except his feet. "One day, I'm going to hurt myself", he thought.

Once down, he filled the "bucket" and then proceeded to climb back up. Not easy. At all. He put the bucket on his shoulder, holding it with his right hand and climbed back up on three legs to make sure he doesn't slip and spill everything on the floor. It seemed like an eternity before he was back up, panting and breathing hard. He put the bucket on the floor and decided to take a rest, just laying down on his back in the shape of a star, catching his breath. He wasn't going to do that again. "Get me a battery and I'll make you a pump!", he thought.

But at least, he got about 3L of water from the trip.

    Maddy

Maddy nodded as Kamisama clapped his hands; he clearly understood. The way he tried to say the word right over and over again, made her smile. There was definitely something different about him and he did not nearly make her as nervous as the others did. Maddy watched him walk towards the slope. When he jumped down it she pinched her eyes closed for a moment as she imagined the fall and it made her worry. Intently she listened for any sounds that would tell her if he was okay or not. WATAAA !!" Maddy signed in relieve.

Maddy worried about the daywalkers too that were still inside and with every moment that passed that worry got stronger. She imagined that some of them were still alive and they needed help bad. If they would not get them out soon there would be no point in doing it at all. “I am going in to see who is still alive,” Maddy said to those around her “Please help me, because I don’t have the strength to get them out.” As she said it she made a sign with her hand motioning them to go inside hoping that Kamisama would understand that way too. Without waiting for a response Maddy went through the hole.

Ones inside Maddy felt somewhat overwhelmed by the sight of all the bodies. She pulled her ‘mask’ up over her face and moved to the corner to the first body. She checked her vital signs to find that the female was dead. She moved over to the second with a similar result and with the third it wasn’t any different. One by one Maddy checked them all and felt her sadness grow as she found that they were all dead. When she reached one of the last motionless bodies she was surprised to feel a pulse and a strong one too.

    -- Vince --
The rock had had very little effect, and so Vince had quickly made way when his former lock-up companion came in with a fire axe and started really opening up the hole. The women began to squeeze out, with no small number of cuts and scrapes to show for it. Vince stood aside, leaning against the hull and watched as they emerged. Among them there were some dangerous and some harmless. Mostly, Vince kept his attention on the one who still posed the greatest threat; the one with the axe. His bearing gave away little, but he had a smile and seemed to be enjoying the attention of the women.

There was a lot of fragmented conversation after that. Some went to explore the ravine below, which apparently had a stream running through it. Others were debating on whether to go find the other half of the ship and salvage what they could. That seemed the best plan for now. Vince knew a little about wilderness survival, but not much. Keep warm at night, fire should keep predators away, boil water before you drink it...but all of those rules were based on Earth’s ecology. Who knew what they would find here? They didn’t know what was potable or edible; they didn’t know what was poisonous or healthy; they didn’t know what would ward off animals. But worst of all, they had no idea if they could even trust one another.

“...try and find the front of the ship. There might be stuff in there we can use. Food, blankets, whatever.” Vince nodded. The woman was one of the slightly-taller ones in her group. Her hair was dark brown and cut short. She was talking with a younger, smaller woman with blonde hair and a nasty cut on the side of her head. Vince pushed off the wall and walked to them.

“Then we should go now.” He looked around at the others. “Who’s coming?”
"Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young, in a world of magnets and miracles, our thoughts strayed constantly and without boundary. The ringing of the Division Bell had begun..."

Gabriel walked through the ruined ship without much thought for the dead people he was stepping over to reach the compartments in the far wall. After all, he believed that they would either burn in hell or be glorified in heaven no matter how their earthly shells were treated after their souls had departed. He shook his head a little as he reached the compartment. Bending down a little, he inspected the locking device carefully for a few moments.

Then he decided to just hit it with the axe anyway.

With one clean swing, the first compartment opened up as he cleaved through the lock. He hummed lightly to himself as he rummaged through the contents and pulled out a large armful of work clothes. He nodded to himself and walked back out of the wreckage, dropping the work clothes outside the wreck,

"Clothes here!" he called out absently before returning to the wreckage. He frowned when he saw the small woman from before looking down at the person she was inspecting. He scowled a little before picking up the limp body,

"Where do you want 'em?" he asked her with a more polite tone.
    "Who are you people?"
"We were sent by He who is called I Am!"
    "Cute."

    Maddy

Maddy continued to assess the injuries of the unconscious female. She had a clear head wound that would need attention soon, but it was not the first priority at the moment. She had no fractures as far as Maddy could tell, and Maddy made sure to check her back and neck twice, and although she had cuts they were not of a nature that they would have her bleed to death. By means of deduction Maddy assumed that the female was still in an unconscious state due to the head injury. The female would have to be moved soon as the smoke would kill her and Maddy had no idea how to do that as she would not be able to carry the female’s weight.

The answer to her problem came soon enough and in the very person that she feared: the male with the axe."Where do you want 'em?" Like before Maddy avoided making eye contact with him and getting anywhere near him physically. Softly she said. “She needs to be taken outside away from the smoke. I will attend to her wounds there when I can. I first need to go into the male quarters as there might be survivors there too.” Maddy got up and stepped towards the hole again, but then frowned “The hole might have to be opened up more if she is to get out without cutting you and her up badly. Maddy stepped out through the hole.

    -- Lee --

The waiflike girl had compassion, going back into the wreck to look for survivors, it looked as though rescue operations were starting. Lee looked back the way the ship had come and then at the angle of the sun.

“Then we should go now.” A tall dark man was speaking. “Who’s coming?”

"I'll come with," Lee said, her voice and face guarded, "We might be able to find medical supplies for the injured," she wiped at the sore place where her head had bashed into the wall, "if there is anything left to find."

The violent force required to rip off the whole front section of the transport was daunting up close. It was hard to imagine that anything from the forward part would be useable or even big enough to identify.

Kamisama caught his breath back after a little while and got back up with the new mission of bringing the water to Kobito. He picked up the container and walked to where she now was, looking and treating an injured woman. After a short time, she got back up and seemed to be headed towards the men's pen, most probably for the same reason she went back into the women's: looking for injured survivors.

He caught up with her as she was heading inside the men's hole in the ship. He stopped her: "Me faasto." The reason why he wanted to go first was because of the smoke. As he noticed before, there was a lot more smoke on the men's side, because the fruit greatly slowed the fire on the women's side. A distinctive smell, flesh burning, was emanating from the hole, and he predicted that it wouldn't be a pretty sight inside.

As he peek inside, he got assaulted by the smoke and started coughing, his eyes watering. As predicted, it wasn't a pretty sight at all, and he doubted anyone could survive the heat and smoke amount. He went back out, looking at Kobito with the "I don't think there's anything we can do on this side, sorry" look.

    Maddy

Maddy was about to head over the hole in the male side of the ship when she was stopped by the one who had gotten her the water before. "Me faasto." He said and Maddy nodded. She figured that he probably would be faster as he had come from that side of the ship and would know his way around.

She watched him peek into that side of the ship, but he did not go in. When he came back to her his coughing and watering eyes made it clear why he had not gone in. The fire had to be bad on that side of the ship and for a moment Maddy shivered thinking of what had happened to the survivors in there.

Maddy smiled when she noticed the water. "Water. Thank you." She wasn't sure what do do next as talking would be hard. She put her hand on her chest and said “I am Maddy” she then put her hand on his “Who are you?”

Gabriel sighed a little as he set the woman down outside of the ruined ship, a few meters away from it to keep the smoke from her lungs. He looked around suspiciously before kneeling down beside the woman's head. With his right hand he made the sign of the crosss on her forehead and began to mutter quietly to himself before placing his hand comfortingly on his forehead,

"If the Lord designs to take you, you will live again in a better place."
    "Who are you people?"
