“Doctor” Gregory (or as most of the compound called him, Grandpa) relaxed as the “doctor in training” set Elly Rose’s arm. He was honestly too old to do anything, but pass his knowledge onto Collette. Besides, she was willing to do all of the medical work in Verguild.
“Elly,” she sighed darkly. “You need to stop running around all over the place. If you keep this up, you’ll end up in a wheel chair.”
But, Elly Rose stuck her tongue at her childishly. “All work and no play made Jack a dull boy. You were probably very dull when you were little, Col.”
“Don’t call me Col,” said the doctor through clenched teeth. “Besides, I can be dull if I want to be. My brilliance makes up for it.”
Elly giggled, but it was cut of by a siren. The white lights turned red. A smooth female voice rang through the speakers. “Warning. This is not a drill. All citizens are required to meet in the amphitheater at 21 hours for a mandatory meeting. Please report to your family’s designated area… Warning…”
The message continued to repeat and though they had already heard it, the group remained silent. Nothing had happened like this since the outbreak. Collette feel the old fear resurfacing inside her. Something bad must have happened, something very bad. She shoved her now cured patient out the door and rushed out of the hospital ward. She was very frightened. Her heart beat spastically. This time she was too old to have anyone hold her hand to calm her down. She was an adult, she needed to control herself.
Elly looked confused, but Collette just murmured, “Go find your mom and stay with her, kid.” Then she ran to the meeting.

Noa had just opened her little shop. She had put all the clothes on a nice display and had started re-organising the books section. Noa whistled a tune that had stuck in her mind. She enjoyed doing it as she wanted things to be orderly. Then the siren went off and it frooze her.

“Warning. This is not a drill. All citizens are required to meet in the amphitheater at 21 hours for a mandatory meeting. Please report to your family’s designated area… Warning…”

Oh my god, this couldn't be good. Where was Mike? Should she go to the designated area or wait for him first? He had told her not to leave the shop. Would it upset him if she did anyway? Was this not an exception? Noa walked up to the window of the shop and looked outside hoping to see Mike's face appear somewhere but he was nowhere to be seen.

It took at least fiveteen minutes before Mike walked into the shop. He looked at Noa annoyed 'What are you still doing here? Didn't you hear the message?. Noa looked at Mike nervously. 'I'm sorry, I eh...' she said and accidentially threw a book of the shelves. 'Oh you cluts. Can't you do anything by yourself? Come on lets go'. Mike walked out of the shop quickly towards the meeting and Noa had to run to keep up with him.

Thorn poured his Soufflé mixture into ramekins. As he slid it into the oven he nearly dropped the tray though as an alarm went off, making him jump.

“Warning. This is not a drill. All citizens are required to meet in the amphitheater at 21 hours for a mandatory meeting. Please report to your family’s designated area… Warning…”

The chefs around him gave questioning looks to each other and a buzz of conversation broke out as the began to funnel out of the kitchen. This was strange, thorn though, nothing like this had ever happened before, at least not since the outbreak. Then he suddenly realised that the meeting will probably be the sort of thing that lasts ages. His soufflés were going to burn! That was his first attempt at making them as well. He pouted and left the kitchen.

"Idiots," he muttered. This was probably going to be something and nothing...

Mortimer Whipple sighed contentedly to himself as he eased himself into the comfortable chair that rested near Duncan's bed. He smiled down at his eagerly awaiting son,
"Are you ready Duncan?" he asked in a whisper. Duncan giggled quietly,
"Yes Daddy..." he whispered back. Mortimer chuckled lightly, enjoying there little whisper game as he always did,
"Alright then. Alice in Wonderland or one of Daddy's stories?" he asked in the same hushed tone as before. Duncan, however, forgot the hushed voice rule,
"One of Daddy's stories!" he cried out. Mortimer laughed,
"Alright scamp! I heard you the first time!" he scolded playfully as he rubbed Duncan's hair. Duncan giggled.

“Warning. This is not a drill. All citizens are required to meet in the amphitheater at 21 hours for a mandatory meeting. Please report to your family’s designated area… Warning…”

Mortimer rolled his eyes as the message played out loudly through his son's bedroom,
"I've got to make the thing quieter some day..." he mused before realising that Duncan was hiding under his covers, clawing at his ears,
"Too loud!" he complained over the wail of the alarm. Mortimer's face softened and he picked Duncan up off his bed, covers and all,
"Then come on then my big boy. You think you're big enough to join a family meeting?!" he asked playfully. Duncan nodded,
"Yeah daddy! I'm big, I'm big!" he exclaimed. Mortimer nodded and carried his son to the meeting room. He frowned,
"Can someone turn that thing off? My boy's trying to sleep!"

    ((Sorry it's really bad0)

Wolfy grinned as yet another guard fell infront of her, she was really starting to enjoy todays training match, so far it was 3 nil to the girls. Damin sat on the side lines clapping each time his sister managed to beat another guard.

Just as the next guard stepped up for his turn, the warning message rang through the gym.

“Warning. This is not a drill. All citizens are required to meet in the amphitheater at 21 hours for a mandatory meeting. Please report to your family’s designated area… Warning…”

Sighing Wolfy grabbed her little brothers arm and dragged him towards the family meeting area.

With big steps Mike walked into the amphitheater and Noa was running behind him trying to keep up. The amphitheater was slowly filling up with people and Mike looked across the room for a familiar face. He was looking for Collette but he didn't see her. He guessed she wasn't there yet and kept an eye on the enterance. Noa stayed as close to Mike as she could whilst her eyes searched the room for Thorn. Mike watched for a while and followed her eyes. Suspiciously he asked 'Who are you looking for?'. Noa fidgeted with her jacked nervously and said 'I was just looking for Wolfie and Damin'. Mike sighed annoyed and looked for Collette again.

Collette rushed into the amphitheater looking slightly like a deer running from a pack of wolves. People kept asking her questions in the hall as if she knew what was going on. Mike stood out like a sore thumb. She rushed over to him, "Mike. Thank Goodness. Hi Noa. How are you? Does anyone know what's going on?"
Her question was soon answered. Captain Theodore Rose stepped up to the pulpit. The chaos was immediately silenced. He cleared his throat and began, "I am sorry for the confusion. What I am about to talk to you about is more menial than many of you think. On Verguild we have a strict policy of honesty and attitude. I will not tolerate bad behavior. At this exact time yesterday we received what was said to be a distress call for Earth. Shelly, please play the recording."
The sound quality was awful. Collette had a hard time understanding the male voice that came through it. "If you are listening to this, then you are not alone. We are begging you, please, help us. I don't think we can.... Shoot." It was silence for a moment. Then there was pounding and clawing. "Johny get you gun out, now. Lissa--"
The recording stopped abruptly. People began to mutter about themselves and Rose looked cocky. "After further investigation. We believe that this recording is hoax. A practical joke of sorts. We all know that earth is a dead planet, if there were survivors, then we would have known about them long ago. Do not fear, we are doing all we can to figure out who the perpetrator is. If you have any information on who you might be, please call--"
Collette's hand tightened on Mick's arm and she whispered suspiciously, "A lie? That didn't sound fake, Mike. Noa, there aren't any cheep recording devices on Verguild, right?"

Elly glanced up at Daddy as he talked to the crowd. Sure she had done her fair share of mischief, but this was beyond her. The person who did this had to be a master. Her dad dismissed everyone and the hall began to empty. She exited with the crowd, allowing her to be pushed into the cafeteria. She could quite shake the feeling that her father was wrong. No it couldn't be true. He always told the truth.

`Mike. Thank Goodness. Hi Noa. How are you? Does anyone know what's going on?"

Mike seemed pleased as he saw Collette and Elly walk in. He was about to answer the question when the captain spoke and then the recording was played. Mike actively listened to the recording and it both puzzled and anoyed him.

"A lie? That didn't sound fake, Mike. Noa, there aren't any cheep recording devices on Verguild, right?"

Noa was about the answer when Mike said ´No there aren´t as far as I know. It didn´t seem like a fake to me. Who ever he was, he sounded petrified´. Mike shrugged. Noa looked towards Elly who seemed unconfortable. She hugged her and said ´It´s gonna be ok, sweety, don´t worry´

Wolfy lent against the side wall unsure of what to think. Damin leaning next to her glaring across the hall at Noa.

    Mort shook his head,
"And why haven't we traced the contact then? I could trace that signal with a microwave and a coat hanger." he looked around at everyone else, "I suggest the bridge isolates the signal so that we can trace it. End this argument that way."

Noa noticed Wolfie and Damin and smiled. She wanted to walk over to them but didn't as she suspected that Mike would not apreciate her leaving his side.

"I suggest the bridge isolates the signal so that we can trace it. End this argument that way." Mike smiled at Mort and said 'Now that sounds like a bright idea to me'.

Mort nodded with a small smile,
"Well it kinda is my job to do some thinking..." He was about to continue when Duncan tugged on his sleeve,
"Who's that Daddy?" he muttered, hiding behind his dad. Mort looked from Mike to Duncan and laughed,
"Its just Mike. You know Mike Duncan."

Noa stayed behind Mike although she liked little Ducan very much. She would laugh at him ever now and then and tried to make him play with her by appearing and disappearing behind Mike's back.

Mike laughed at Ducan 'You remember me, don't you Duncan?'. He then turned to Mort again 'I'm glad someone is doing some thinking. Not many of them seem to do that around here. Most prefer to either panic or ignore it all'.

Mort grew serious as Duncan began to grow happier behind him,
"But do you really think people could be alive down there? After all that's happened... even if they are alive. I don't think they'll last long..." he commented. But while Mort was trying to have a serious conversation with Mike, Duncan was playing with Noa, peeking out from behind his dad to pull funny faces at her and laugh.
