Dressed in the smart uniform of her postition and with her hair pulled back into a perfect twist, Kasia smiled pleasantly and the elderly couple standing at the counter. The old lady smiled back as Kasia asked; "Can I help you, Ma'am?"

"Yes dear, we have a reservation booked. The name is Brighton." the lady answered in a decidedly english accent. Kasia was good at accents, this one was a definate upper-class british, such as you would hear from John Cleese.

Kasia checked her records and smiled as the name came up. She went through the routine of taking the couples' card and checking them into their room, her manicured fingers flying over the keyboard. She chattered lightly to the couple as she completed the entry into the system and then passed over their key and card together.

"We hope you have a pleasant stay with us, Ma'am and Sir here at the Plaza Hotel." she said. "If you require anything please do not hesitate to ask. And here is Andre to take your luggage up." she indicated the young man who materialised out of the crowd. The elderly couple thanked her profusely and moved away.

Several feet away, a group of elegently dressed people were in deep discussion on the comfortable lounges in the lobby. A fountain tinkled and the overall sound of the chatter of many people rose to the high ceiling.

Kasia wished that more of her customers were as pleasant as this couple, many were downright horrible. Although it was always exciting when a celebrity stayed. All the staff were on their toes today, as Hollywood royalty was staying for a week, arriving any moment. Most of the staff were finding excuses to be hanging around in the lobby in the hopes of catching glances of their idol.

The que in front of Kasia though was not dimishing, and she kept up her cheerful manner and obedient servitude as was proper of the staff at New York's famous Plaza Hotel. She went on to the next person in line. Only a few more minutes, surely and he would arrive... that should at least give everyone enough of a distraction to make her monotonous day a little more interesting.

Intercom: "This train will soon be arriving at Grand Central Station. He hope that you have enjoyed..."

"Can you send me the bill for Haylee Gr--" Haylee pauses waiting for the reply.

"I'm her personal assisstant, she insisted that I get the bill paid before she returned home." Again Haylee pauses, however this time she is listening with eager relief.

"Thankyou, I'll be in very shortly."

Haylee ends the call and places her cell in her pocket. She stands, this defines the beautiful dull-orange halter-neck top and 'rusty' styled jeans she is wearing.

Within 3 minutes of the arrival notice the train finally comes to a stand still. The doors part and Haylee steps off into the vast train station known as 'Grand Central'. Haylee has finally made it to New York. Peering through the gaps of the herds of people Haylee sees the 'Traveller Information' kiosk. Lucky for Haylee, everyone in New York speaks English, no need for her... skill... today. At the kiosk was a very attractive man really just looking for someone to serve. Haylee decided that she'd be the one to make his day.

"Excuse me? Can I get directions to 'The Plaza' Hotel?" Haylee realised now that he was only a boy. Hmmm... not that bad of an age to start a modelling career...

"Ah, yeah, sure." This was odd. A scottsman in New York, giving people directions to get around the place. However, Haylee was soon tired of her roaming thoughts and took the directions, being glad that she actually had some directions. with no money for a taxi, Haylee was going to have to walk, she was used to walking, ecspecially in London.

It was a good 20-30 minutes before she arrived in front of The PLaza Hotel. This was it, she would finally get the details she needed to uncover her past. For Haylee, this was a big moment, for the past year she had been running all around the world looking for clues to her lost identity. Now... Haylee is only a hairs-width away from her future...

    Alexx Introduction

Keep the ones you love close,
before the ones you love are gone.

    I'm yours forever,
Whether you wish to beleive it or not.

    Yours
    Adam.

A small sigh escaped Alexx's lips as she finsihed writing on the card, closing it up she attached the light pink ribbion and tied it to the bunch of flowers. She observed the young gentleman on the otherside of the counter as he made small talk with her boss, Kristy.

Kristy was a slightly over weight lady, her hair only just starting to gray around the edges. She always wore a warm smile, and would go out of her way to help anyone. For this Alexx was Incredibly gratefull.

Alexx coughed polietly putting on a smile as got the attention of the youngman,
"I hope these reach your expectations sir" The young man smiled gratefully as he took the flowers off Alexx,
"yes there perfect" he said grinning, "Thank you both so veyr much" Kristy smiled at him,
"Anytime, have a good day" She said polietly as the young man walked out of the store. Alexx just turned around and walked back out into the back of the store, there was a large order for the Plaza hotel, some big celebraty or something.

After two hours Alexx was finished, Kristy walked in to help her put them in the appropriate boxes for Delivery. Kristy smiled at Alexx as they finished,
"Remind me to give you a raise for this" Alexx just smiled and laughed slightly, as she picked up a few of the boxes,
"You want to go open ze car door?" She asked Kristy a soft hint of her German accent coming though. Kristy mearly nodded and walked outside. Another twenty minutes went by before Alexx was actually on her way to the plaza hotel. Kristy had given her the keys to the stores van to make this delivery so that she could watch the shop, Alexx of course was more than happy to accept.

She drove easily though the busy streets of New York before finally pulling into the delivery bay of the Plaza hotle.

"Kasia, go on break. Be back in twenty, alright?" Kasia heard her supervisor Hubert clearly. She nodded and scurried out through the staff door behind the Plaza check-in counter and went to fetch her packed lunch. She normally took it outside and enjoyed the brief peace of the loading dock but today she wanted to be around for when their celebrity guest appeared.

Removing her uniform taylored jacket she replaced it with a casual one at home, doing it up and slipping her feet out of her heels and into a pair of trainers. Now nobody would think she was staff and interrupt her break. She quickly tucked her shoes and coat away and scurried out of the room - heading back into the lobby and making her way over to a quiet corner where there was almost always a comfy chair free.

To her delight she found that she was right yet again, there was an empty chair waiting for her. She settled into it, from her vantage point she could see the front doors of the hotel and a good deal of the Lobby floor. She opened her containers and settled down to enjoy a well deserved break.

As she sat, for entertainment purposes she allowed her hearing to wander, letting her mind focus more on her best sense so she could pick up the sounds and voices better. Nobody had told her it was rude to eavesdrop, and it was especially difficult to do avoid doing so with her talents in any case.

With mild interest she skipped over most of the people, very few had anything interesting to say. She focused on the doors, watching newcomers with mild interest. It was then she noticed a young woman close to her own age with pale skin and black hair that reached her waist. She watched as the woman entered the Lobby and gazed around. Kasia lost interest quickly and went back to her lunch.

Andre the luggage boy made his way through the crowd and past the old couple he was attending, for they had stopped to look at old paintings that only elderly people could enjoy.

The hallway leading to the elevators was elegantly decorated, for only the richest patrons stayed at the Plaza Hotel, and the designers wished to please them aesthetically. The hallway had many shadows, for the lights in the corridor were soft lights best used to enhance subtle colors.

As Andre passed one of these sections of shadows, it seemed to elongate behind him and form the shape of a baseball bat. The next thing the bellboy knew, the shadow-bat smacked him upside the head. He crumpled to the ground.

The elevator dinged nearby, and Aydin Hanah started in the shadows. He quickly melted the shadows over the fallen body of Andre, and sucked him into the darkness just as a man suited in black hurried past, not giving the luggage a glance as he talked excitedly into his cell phone.

Aydin detached himself from the shadows when he knew the man was out of sight. He grabbed the luggage and quickly lept into the elevator before it could close on him.

"That was a close call, milord," Aydin heard from his shadow partner.

"Yes, it was. Let's not worry about that," Aydin replied.

"It's about time you got here" Alexx sighed as she opened the rear doors on her truck,
"My deapest appologies for being late" She said with the best appologetic smile she could muster,
"Well, i suppose all can be forgiven" The man said whistling for the bell boy's. Alexx watched carefully as they unloaded the flowers from the truck and dissapeared into a service elevator. The man who had greated Alexx smiled,
"I must ask you to accompany me, we will need your help placing the flowers" He said politetly Alexx nodded and followed him inot hte elevator that the bell boys had dissapeared into.

When they left the elevator the man infront of Alexx lead them directly to a room, upon opening hte door the bell boy's immediatly went to work placing the flowers into certain vases around the room. Alexx just walked by each one rearanging them to give maximum impact.

At completion the man who had greated ehr smiled at Alexx,
"Your check is at hte front desk, just take the lift across the hall to the plaza and someone will help you" Alexx smiled back, just gratefull she'd be outta here soon. Walking accross to the elevator she hit the down button and waited quietly.

Click... The Zippo opens it metal cage nd bursts into a flint filled flame. Jecht stood on one foot, leaning his back against the Plaza hotel's exterior wall. Passers by stare at him, and his obvious disability. 'Like looking into a mirror' He quickly ponders to himself.

He looks for a target. Distracted patrons are easily found when one watches from the window of your mind. A valet, restlessly fidgits with nerves shot; his forehead holds bullets of moisture, as he reassuringly lips his lips. 'He anticipates something important... I shall wait... and watch'

Ely had a new coat and suit. He looked smart… for once. And he hated it. He had groaned when the boss had told Ely that the job was in a posh hotel. He would enjoy the stay but he hated suits, they were so stiff. He hadn’t backed down over the beard. Nothing would make him lose the beard.

He casually walked into the hotel and headed to the check in desk. He was getting better at this, he realised. When Ely had first been sent on ‘jobs’ for the Mafia he had stuck out like a saw thumb. Now it was almost like he… blended in. That was just weird for him. It hadn’t been long since people had turned their noses up at him and wouldn’t share the time of day never mind their mouth-watering sandwiches.

Ely walked up to the counter and was confronted by a woman wearing the standard corporate plastic-smile. The façade was useless on Ely. He could sense her boredom. He smiled at her and quickly paid for a room. Hoping for some rest before the ‘job’ he walked over to the elevator and waited for it to open…

Haylee, slightly weary from her journey, steped into the turnstyle and followed it through revealing an almost enchanted lobby. Definately one of the most prestigious in New York she thought to herself. She paused, analysising the layout of the lobby just in-case. Front counter, directly ahead; elevators in the left corner, and emergency exit to the far left corner. Haylee walked forward merging into the small queue. This was make or break for Haylee, who was now struggling to hold herself together in the shear anticipation of the moment, if the bill gave her no leads then she'd be back to her almost seemingly best friend, commonly known as 'square one'.

The line grew shorter and soon the assisstant was speaking to Haylee.

"Welcome to The Plaza Hotel, how can I help?"

"Hello, I just wanted to pay a bill, I'm Haylee Gray's Personal Assisstant, I called earlier."

"Ah, yes, just one second, please."

"Thankyou." While Haylee waited, she remembered how many steps it took for her to get to this spot. 38 steps, huh, wonder why--

"That will be $695.14 dollars. Are you paying with cash or--"

"Cash." The assisstant accpeted the money from Haylee, quietly re-counting the bills and change to ascertain that the right money had been given. "Could I please get a print out of the bill, just to have it on record?"

"Sure, It won't be long" Haylee watched as the girl clicked her mouse and stood up to collect the print-out. "There you go, Have a nice day."

Haylee didn't bother saying goodbye, to her, that girl was nothing but lucky to have such a pleasant life. Haylee walked to a seat in the lobby and made her self comfortable, this could take awhile...

"Oh mon Dieu, somewhere to lie down."

Genevieve dropped her bags by the door and fell backward onto the bed, sinking into the mattress. She glanced at the pad of paper on the nightstand provided by the hotel - 'The Plaza Hotel' in fancy cursive letters at the top. She cleared her mind except a single train of thought.

The train of thought materialized on the paper in the form of black ink.

    To Do List:
. Pick up birthday present for Mom. Tiffany's???
. Buy new books from the Barnes and Noble.
. Order a cosmopolitan at a fabulously trendy nightclub just for the hell of it. Consider buying a gold necklace that has my name in cursive.
. Sic Don Corleone on the old creeper who checked me out on the subway.

Christ on a cracker, is it THAT impossible to look somewhat attractive and go unnoticed in the Big Apple? No wonder I moved away. At least in Michigan small towns, guys will actually tell you what they think instead of just staring at you like a slab of

    "Miss?"

"Can't you see the 'Do Not Disturb' sign?" Genevieve yelled at the voice outside the door. Sounded like a teenage bellhop who'd be asking for a one-night stand in a matter of seconds.

"There's a package for you from a Mrs. le Mort."

She leapt off the bed and opened the door. The fumbling teenage boy in a silly uniform handed her a parcel wrapped in brown paper with strings.

"Merci, mon cher." She rummaged through her jacket pocket and gave him five bucks for a tip, closing the door.

She ripped open the paper and giggled like a little girl on Christmas morning. Whenever Genevieve was in town, her mom - Aoife le Mort, maiden name O'Brian - would send her some books. Genevieve's father, Laurent, didn't exactly agree, what with Genevieve's hidden talents. He preferred to send her newer editions of books she had already read, pretending that Genevieve was a normal human with an average brain

Genevieve couldn't wait to devour the three books her mom had sent her - the new Stephen King story collection, 'About a Boy', and 'American Psycho'. If there was one thing she cherished, it was books she hadn't read.

After all, with books she had read, she could play it forward and backward in her mind like a movie.

She called room service. "Bon apres-midi, dahlins' - would you kindly get me a cup of cafe au lait? ... yes, thank you."

She hung up, muttering, "Annoying preppy little bitches. They're probably getting that cafe au lait, altering it however they wish, and saying 'Bon appetit, douchebag'.

"Well, that's the price for coming back to NYC," she thought, lighting a cigarette and waiting for her coffee.

Alexx sighed as she stepped into the elevator and lent against the wall. Reaching out slowly she hit the ground floor button, her mind drifted, mostly onto where she was going to sleep. Kristy wanted her to do some extra work tonight for a wedding that was picking up the flowers in the morning, however that ment that she wouldn't make it to one of the shelters, ontop of that a group of teenage kids had taken her normal hangout, mostly because she really didn't want to hurt any of them.

Looking up she watched the little numbers flash by in rapid succession, absent mindedly she rubbed her upper arm as it began to ache, bringing her hand round she swore, one of her recent cuts had started bleeding again.

She didn't look up as the elevator doors opened, walking out swiftly she wasn't paying attention to where she was going, as she was trying desperatly to see how much blood had soaked thorugh her bandages. Without realising she walked straight into a man in a suit...

Genevieve set the hot cup of cafe au lait on top of the dresser. "I don't even wanna think about what that bellhop who brought it up might've done to it."

She glanced at the clock. It was a quarter till noon. "Merde, merde, merde!" She quickly put on a pair of high heels, smoothed out her dress, checked in the mirror, and got out of the hotel room. She had meant to leave earlier to meet her mother for lunch.

Power-walking and trying not to trip on the thick carpet, Genevieve walked down the hall to the elevator. There was only one other person in it, a man with shaggy white hair and skin the color of onyx.

She leaned back against the elevator wall and fumbled through her purse for a cigarette. She glanced at the man and asked, "Do you know if we're allowed to smoke in the elevator?"

The man didn't answer... his mind appeared to be a million miles away.

"Well, don't tell anyone. I need some nicotine."

After Aydin's shadow spirit left him alone, he began to focus on building a disguise of shadow. There was a person that he was looking for in this hotel, and he knew that a disguise was the only way that he could get close to him.

But suddenly he noticed the elevator was stopping, and as quickly as he could he fed the disguise to Eravius. Don't destroy it, he mentally told him. There was a murmur of acknowledgment from the spirit.

Then the elevator door opened, and the most beautiful woman Aydin had ever laid eyes on walked in. She looked like a typical tourist, with long, luxurious brown hair and a bag covered with badges and pins. She didn't even look at him when she entered, and instead pulled out a ciggarette.

He tried to ignore her, but she insisted on asking him if she was allowed to smoke. He didn't know. He hadn't talked to anyone except Eravius in six months, so he wasn't in any shape to respond. The woman lit up anyway.

They rode the elevator in silence for a couple more moments. Finally, Aydin spoke up, his voice barely above a whisper.

"The end of your life will be caused by those." There was silence for a moment as she looked at him strangely. "Who are you?" he asked.

Genevieve chuckled, "The name's Genevieve le Mort. And as to my death being caused by cigarettes, I should be so lucky. Life sucks - I say smoke 'em if you got 'em. Who are you?"

Aydin smiled just a little at the comment, which rang so true to him. He could never smoke, however. It just wasn't for him. The smile surprised him, because he was not used to feeling such emotion. But somehow this spunky woman had sparked something long dead in him.

"My name's--" he started, about to reveal his real name, but hesitated. He didn't know if he could trust her, no matter how she made him feel. "My name's Shadow."
