dose anyone know what reaction there would be to a 18 year old getting a girl pregnant in 1911. they are upper middle class family, would he have automatically of been made to marry the girl.
If she were middle-class, she would probably be expelled from civil society. Despite the start of the suffragette/suffragists movement women were little better than slaves in this era: women had to rely on men who held all of the resources they needed. Her choices would be limited to banishment from the family or emigration where she could fabricate her past life to new people (she would most certainly still be poor this way however).
There may be occasions where the woman could marry the father, but it would depend on how many people knew the secret, the families agreed on the matter, the man-in-question accepted the allegation and so on.
