Codenames, a difficult field.

Well, basically, honestly find a a name that suits each character, a code name that is. There is no convection, though when it comes to creation, it tends to mark, or match the person in question.

ie, when I was working in one place I was jokingly called a 'ninja' because of how I climbed the racking(it was in a warehouse). A few days later, one of my work mates called out 'Ninja, need you to do some climbing over here.'

It suck, as you can guess.

The director, he may be a big Spielberg fan, ergo Spielberg for a code name. If anything, the more 'innocent' the code name, the greater the effect, say, to copy from the Tom Clancy books, Sorge, Songbird, Swordsman etc.

Badass codenames have to be subtle..... I can't give any off the top of my head, but I've always found that codenames that are used which make you look twice, not so much because you see the word, but because it could be an inside joke refrence to something from a particular Genre of entertainment/art. Stealing from a Musuem, u could always use famous dead painters' names. Picasson, Pollack, etc

Well, what would your characters think were good codenames? Since they're movie buffs, perhaps they'd use the names of famous actors or movie roles? "Dirty Harry", "Errol Flynn", "Terminator", "Karloff", "Lugosi" Or they might use one-word movie names. "Casablanca", "E.T.", "Nosferatu" and so on.
