graphic situatoions and psych truma

Those of you following my threads will understand this question better see medical question cont.

How graphic do you think i can go in a toture scene in sci-fi story i have written a rough draft but i have shown it to people one says it is fine and an exceptable level of voilence, but the other thinks that it is too graphic, it is vertally a blow by blow account. dose anyone think that i should tone it down. i have purposely writing it like that to install the idea of just how frightened that charecter would be. he is subjected to 20 lashings in a roman style jail. i need it to cause enough psych damage that he will be unwilling to return there for a long time.

Why would he ever want to return to a jail?

It can be as graphic as you like. There will always be people who won't like such explicit detail. Too bad. It's your novel, so write it whatever way you like. If you want to detail every blow, do it. When you're editing it, if you feel bad, remove some of the detail.

Sam.

A lot of movies today rely on the extreme gore factor to pull in an audience (which is pretty scary!) so I would imagine you could get away with making it as graphic as you like
