A Canadian who's 38+?

Hey guys

I'm a grade twelve student and I'm reading the book 1984 by Geoge Orwell and want to interview someone who's a Canadian and who's also 38 years old or older. The questions will be based on your past and how it compares to the present.

Thanks!

Please describe your age, occupation and anything else you would like to say. Also, please answer the questions as you would have when you were 18

1. How did technology differ from today? Did the lack of technology in the past allow you to have more privacy?

2. Do you now have more freedom now or less? Has this change been for the better or for worse? (i.e. more surveillance in the streets equate less crimes)

3. How does the social norms of the past compare to the present?

4. What were your social, cultural and moral values in the past? Did it match the social norms? Did the change in society’s values (if it did) through time also change yours?

5. Has Canada become more patriotic or less? What do you believe the causes to be?

6. What do you think of the media and advertisements of today compared to the past? Have they crossed the line in trying to publicize their shows and products?

7. How was the education in the past? How does it compare to now?

8. With that said, do you believe people are more “equipped” to deal with this inflow of information from the media that may be false? Can people think for themselves better now than in the past?

9. How was the tolerance for people of different sex, race, age, orientation in the past? Is it better now or worse?

10. How was the economy in the past? How were the costs of living in the past?

11. Is the use of language any different from the past? What do you think of new words created in Canada? Are they necessary or unnecessary? Good or bad?

12. How were the politics in the past?

13. How was Canada’s role in international affairs and peacekeeping in the past?

14. What did you enjoy to do for fun when you were younger? Do you still do these things?

15. Did you have any fears in the past? Have you now overcome these fears?

16. How was the family life in the past? Has the increase in Canada’s materialistic values (video games, money, etc) been a cause of decline in family values?

17. Overall, were things better than they are now, or were things worse?

Bryan Adams

He was playing at an Indian casino a month ago out here. It seems that he would be flattered to get the attention at this stage of his career. He's the only aging Canadian that came to mind. See the contact info above. Good luck.

Why specifically a Canadian, why 38, and what's the connection with 1984?
