Greetings...

I need to come up with a fictitious town name in Denmark for my book. I suppose I could just combine parts from two different town names, but it would be embarrassing to find out I've spelled "big butt" or some other interesting name.

I noticed quite a few towns end with "rød," as in avderød.

I've used online translators and rød translates as "red" while I'm thinking it probably means "ville" "burg" or some variation.

Anyway, of all the sites I've been to, I'm finding it difficult to find breadowns for words.

So...

Can anyone suggest a site online (I've been to wiki and all the links I could find within that site) or perhaps volunteer to help me come up with a name if you know Danish.

Why don't you get a Berlitz book of Danish and find something in there. You might find a word that relates to your story.

I went on a translater and town/city was 'by' whereas village was 'landsby'

the site is http://www.freedict.com/onldict/onldict.php maybe you can enter some random english words and come up with something.
