Not to mention that I'm willing to bet that there are lots and lots of books on the subject. Go to your local liberary, they probably have an entire section of the subject.

The 19th century was (as you may suspect) at least 100 years long. A lot happened between the Napoleonic Wars the death of Queen Victoria, including the demise of powdered wigs and the rise and fall of muttonchops. It might be good if you narrowed things down a bit.

Indeed. Plus, 19th century Europe, America, Asia, Africa, were all very different places.

Try searching for specifics. Fashion, architecture, footwear, customs, transport...

Don't expect there to be an "Everything you ever wanted to know about the 1800's but were afraid to ask" site.

Part of me wants to throw rocks at that statement, but it's true. Just like the 60's actually started in about 1964 and lasted through to around 1975. Not chronologically, but from a social vibe point of view.

heh. Google letting you down?

I suppose you can go pick up some historic fiction, perhaps Sherlock Holmes if you are looking for 19th century English life. Perhaps A tale of Two Cities, Dickens does a great job of creating a contrast between England and France.

I agree with Clancy and Mike, just imagine trying to find info on the 20th century without specifying if you're looking for things about 1901 or 1999. That would be... quite different.

It would seem that perhaps you have some fantasy about writing the definitive novel on 19th century England.

My thoughts are that if you lack the [insert noun of choice relating to mental state] to make Google work for you - indicating a general inability regarding research - and if in addition this post is a good example of your word skills, you should perhaps take up work as a horse doctor instead.

Horse doctor seems like a pretty boring job, though. Check the horse, notice a broken bone, shoot the horse, get paid. Repeat ad nauseam.

Also, is "
[insert noun of choice relating to mental state]"a sign that you've gotten nice or lazy? Or both, I guess.

Try the 'Republic of Pemberley' website - they have links to web pages dedicated to the life and times of Jane Austen. But being a P&P fan, you probably have already. Silly Lilac

I would say then that the 19th century lasted from about the American (or French) revolution until WWI.

But really I was just being a smartass.

I'm pretty sure the OP is thinking of the so-called "High Victorian" era. i.e., top hats, steam engines, and badass facial hair. 1850-ish through the 1880's (in America and England.)

Here, let me help.
