Ghost stories

I'm writing a series of episodes which revolve around ghosts, and trying to play off of common ghost stories.

Anyone have any links to "real" ghost stories? By which I mean stories that are said to have happened near real places and are believed by a number of people? Like Chicago's Resurrection Mary, for example.

Links to sites would be great, or you can briefly tell a story here.

Thanks!

Thanks a bunch!

Hotels seem to be quite a popular place for hauntings ... Ironically, more common than cemetaries.

Man have I got a place for you to check out.

You can pretty much go anywhere on Ft Eustis, Va, but the best place is the officers club.

Sorry I don't have a link.

I have real ghost encounters. Well, they look like humans, but most of them have a blank stare.

There is a great ghost story about a man Named William (Bill) Sketoe. He was a reverand in a methodist church in a small in Alabama during the civil war. His wife became ill and, rumor has it, he hired someone in his stead and came home to tend to his sick wife. This was in December 1864 and the confederates were losing and not very happy people. Anyway, there were a bunch of folks in the town that took it upon themselves to police up deserters. They thought that the reverand had deserted so they got drunk, rounded up Bill and hung him from a tree down by the river. Only problem was Bill was a tall man and the tree branch they hung him from wasn't quite tall enough. One of the men had to dig a hole out under his feet so he would hang properly. To this day, it is said that the hole will not fill in and the ghost of Bill Sketoe haunts the area. Adding to this is the fact that all the men involved in Bill Sketoe's hanging died withing the next few years after his death from mysterous accidents.

Pretty interesting story and the hanging part and the mysterious deaths are all true. I'm writing a fictional story based on this right now.

Thanks for sharing! That's interesting, indeed.

Perhaps I'll get an opportunity to read your story--either in published form or on the forums.
