Nothingness

I've been looking for months, and haven't found anything about, insane asylums in the early 1900s. Since my short story's setting is an asylum in 1903, naturally, I need help.

Any information, or ideas on how to find information, would be greatly appreciated.

Try the late 1800's maybe? I think that was when the first asylums were established. In Scotland, if I'm not mistaken. Conditions shouldn't be that different from 1903.

There are others. Also, talk to your local librarian, read Dracula (there's some good detail in there). And many of the books from the turn of the century deal in madness and have descriptions as well.
