Well, I guess I'm one of the only Catholics without horror stories about it around here. Anyway, I basically thought the sacraments went like this.

Baptism: Within one month of birth (usually)
First Reconciliation/First Communion: Earlier than what lisajane said, but pretty close to that (maybe 6 or 7)
Confirmation: 11th Grade

I hope people will remember that hating Catholics for being Catholic is bigotry the same way hating Muslims or Buddhists is bigotry. In other words, I think anyone with a horror story is more likely the exception, not the rule.

I'm not Catholic, just went to a Catholic high school for a couple of years. But I had to write quite a few research papers, and the first place you want to look for the answer to a question about Catholic theology is a book titled Catechism of the Catholic Church. It was "promulgated by Pope John Paul II," whatever that means. It's about 900 pages, but it has an index, and there's a glossary defining many common terms. It has the "official" answers in "a way that everyday people can understand." And happens to be confusing anyway. But if you have to have an answer...
