Interview With the Vampire handled the question better than the movie version of Lord of the Rings did.
I like the idea of some people not having the "stamina" for immortality, and wanting to off themselves after 800 years or so.
That's the last nice thing I will say about Anne Rice.

Pretty sure that wasn't Plague Dogs. Plague Dogs is a novel by the Watership Down guy (Adams?) about dogs with the plague.

I would go the other way and say that because of their experiences they would be less adaptable to change. Now that breeds more ideas, if they're less adaptable to change then what are they hoping for? A return to the way things were or possibly they see change as just a logical continuation of how things were when they were "a lad" and would like to see some real change. Revolution, uprising, hell you've got all the ingredients now!

If I would age slower, i would feel that the world surrounding my is always delayed in terms of progress and development, because I could see thru the years more than other people can see and my experience would be greater han normal people. My wisdom and my knoledge would be like one of an Old Shaman, I've seen many things thru the years, I've dealt with many different things thru history.
So, my personality would be of a very experienced man, who knows about many things and even can predict in some way what humanity will create before it happens (by association and comparission).
What do you think?

"Methuselah's Children" - Robert A. Heinlein
"Time Enough for Love" - Robert A. Heinlein
You will find value in reviewing both, I think.
