help with weather

In the story that i'm working on right now, i'm having a serious problem. My story lasts for about the span of a week, and a series of rainstorms is essential in this time period. they need to come daily, through the night and into morning, but it needs to be clear and be sunny in the afternoons. Is this unrealistic. i almost feel stupid asking, but does weather do this ever? i live in New England and i haven't specifically named the state that my story takes place in, but the landscape of the setting is very new englandy. in a place like seattle wa. or something, i don't know if i'd be having this problem, but do u think that this type of weather would be unrealistic within new england? I want it to be beleivable. Suggestions? Comments?

This is realistic... have you ever been to Florida, it can be sunny as hell one minute... gray and rainy the next and right back to sunny.

Do a google search for weather patterns. Your instance will involve weather moving through the area in rapid succession, which I am sure could happen.

Good, that's what i was hoping to hear. Like i said, i haven't reavealed the exact location in the story yet, because of this reason, but the landscape is totally New England, all the way. It just comes out like that, i live in Vermont. It's funny that you mention Florida, i lived in Tampa for 2 years and know exactly what you mean, and i even make reference to "being able to set your watch to the lightning shows" in the story, with the boys father telling him about how he lived there when he was young and the weather was the same way. SO i guess i could simplify the problem by just saying its an "unnatural weather" pattern, maybe using a weather broadcast that the boy listens to over the tv or something....But yeah, thanks for sparking my thought process and letting me know that it's not weird to add this, as i was really skeptical, and it would've thrown any legitamacy to the story out the window.

As long as you vary the time, duraton and type of the rainstorms a little bit, it wouldn't seem wrong to have a string of sunny days with wet weather overnight.

Very humid summer days might have overnight fog that precipitates out in the morning.

There might also be an occasion when it drizzles all night.

The same sort of hot days encourages the formation of thunderstorms. Here in the Hudson Valley, they seem to pop up most often in the late afternoon and overnight.

Can there be a series of thunderstorms in one night? Yep, even in your part of New England -- f'rinstance, about two nights ago!

This time of year we have Monsoons in Northern Arizona, especially in Sedona and Flagstaff. In a normal Monsoon season it's often clear until 2:00 or 3:00 PM, then the clouds will come in and it will rain for 2-6 hours.

Have Fun,
Jeff

We get weather like that all the time here, very humid and wet in summer but dryish - some rain in winter
