I live down the street from a crackwhore hotel. Trust me, these women aren't appealing. Not one bit. And I don't think any of them even own a bra.

I'm not sure there's anything wrong with a woman wanting to look nice, even if it is for the benefit of men.

'nice' is a subjective term... bare-breasted and dangling-penised aboriginals look 'nice' to each other... and i'm sure most of the braless women in the world think they look 'nice' enough, too...

Uh, okay...thanks everybody. Does anyone else have something I could use for my article? Not sure if I can put this stuff in...though I do appreciate the debate this issue has raised and I am not particularly advocating for bras. I just need to write this article.
Is anyone out there a mother or father of an adolescent girl? Can you share with me your experience and feelings your daughter may have about puberty issues?

lisajane is an unknown quantity at this point
Wouldn't it be better to go to the daughter and ask her about her puberty issues rather than go to the mum and dad who probably don't know as much as their daughter's puberty issues?

Yes, and good for them. I wouldn't dream of saying that a woman ought to wear a bra if she doesn't want to; similarly, though, I don't see why a woman that wants to wear a bra ought not to.

If you look in the mirror and think, 'I prefer the way I look with a bra on,' then, male or female, you should wear one. If you look again and think, 'I'm better off without a bra,' then get rid of it. But the existence of the bra is not something that anyone should be condemned for.

Lisajane,
Yes that is good advice. I do have one quote from a girl going through this and need more. I would also like to get parents' feelings during this time. Many moms do take their daughters on their first outing to get a bra. This is the audience the publication is targeting.

I am new to these forums. It may be that I am not asking in the right place. I do like checking this link to read all the comments. I had no idea people had such strong feelings about bras!

Heh. Don't confuse strong feelings with liking to argue. Here on WF it's mostly the latter, I think.

You sound creepy.

Devotchka,
Obviously, this wasn't the best forum to seek quotes from parents. I am amazed at the responses this question has raised. I am a mother of four kids and am writing this article for a parenting magazine.

I agree that my last question was poorly worded. Not in the creepy sense, but in clarity. Thankfully, I have received enough quotes for the article. I am not sure why I felt the need to write back to you...I guess it is because it just feels rotten to be perceived as creepy.

The modern bra was invented by a woman, named Herminie Cadolle in 1905.
