You're so full of shit on so many levels. Just for fun I tried the search on a number of engines, and they all came up with a load of relevant results.

I might write a book set in the 1890's... I know a lot more about it than I did 5 minutes ago.

If he was speaking to the other person then I apologize but if he was speaking to me then I don't. I didn't ask anyone to go out of their way for me. I didn't post here because I lost my internet not long after signing up so I'm sorry that I'm poor and don't keep a stable connection.
I do my own research. When I had someone who could drive me I went and looked in the library first. I have several sources I used before coming here or anywhere else for certain subjects. I actually enjoy doing my research. I just don't happen to be good at doing online research. I'm not as familiar with it. I did search several search engines. I might have worded my searches wrong or maybe I was getting things I didn't need from the same time period. How do you know? You don't know what I'm looking for exactly. I was looking for individual subjects on some occasions. Once I looked for fashion on Yahoo from the 1890s and only got a few results that meant anything and they were a few years off.
I don't care who you are or how much you post here. If you think you have the right to tell someone they shouldn't a writer for any reason you're just an ass plain and simple. Even if I didn't do my own research that would still be no reason for you to tell me I shouldn't be an author. It might give you the right to tell me to write about something I know but not that I shouldn't be a writer period. You're giving me the impression that you're full of yourself and believe that your way is the only way.
I AM using Google. I AM doing my own research. And if you knew how to read entire posts you would see that I ENJOY my research. I love to learn new things, especially in the regards of history. That sure sounds lazy to me. Note the sarcasm if your self centered minds can't get it. I was planning to post more but I happen to have other things to do in life so I can't be on the internet constantly to post eight million times. I think relevant posts on a forum - no matter how few you have - are far better than a million useless ones. I hate people who put so much emphasis on how much a person posts.
And just so you know I used Yahoo, Ask Jeeves, and Altavista when I was searching on my own. I did not come up with things I could use. I did come up with results and some seemed to be useful but when I looked into them I either already knew about what they were saying or didn't need the information. I have some pages that I found useful in my bookmarks right now. Are you so anal that you'd like me to post them? In general it's people like you that make me avoid internet communities.

I didn't tell you that you shouldn't be a writer, moron. I said that if you can't do your own research PERHAPS you shouldn't be a writer. If your reading comprehension is that poor, maybe you shouldn't be writer.

Oh? Like going on to forums, not to contribute, but to ask stupid questions and then insult the people trying to help you?

At this point, I'd prefer if you didn't post at all.

Unless you want stupid questions answered or feel like venting at people?

I thought that perhaps a writer's forum would have less assholes than most communities but I see I was wrong. I forgot that some people when gaining knowledge feel they've gained the right to shit on people who might know a little less than they do.
I did not come to this forum to ask this question specifically. I do not care to receive responses any longer. I do not need help if it comes with insult. And yes I was insulted first so Mike created this situation. You kept it going. I had planned to attempt to fit in here and post often but I think I'll try to find a writer's forum with members who do not feel the need to insult someone who's simply trying to ask a question. A question, I might add, that is not in dire need of answering.
A question only asked in case someone had information or resources I did not know about or would not have found on my own. Just in case someone might want to be nice and help another writer out. Obviously I was mistaken to expect it here. I hope you feel that you've contributed to the forum - and I'm sure with your smug attitude that you will - by running away a possible member.
