VF-902 "Wild Ones"
Hi all!
I'm starting to write my first fiction novel, a Vietnam War-era one, about the life and times of a fictional Navy F-4 Phantom squadron, VF-902, during their time in Vietnam, from 1969 to 1972. The story revolves around Lt. "BJ" Gregg, and his twice-escaped POW and withdrawn pilot, Cdr. "Nicky" Merchant, the winner of a Congressional Medal of Honor. Any help you can give me on aerial combat in Vietnam during this time period would be a great help to me.
Thanks.
James.

James:
Check out this site Naval Aviation it may not give you specifics on naval dog fighting tactics, but it may provide you with additional information for you story.
Also this site F-4 Phantom II Society may be able to put you in touch with the men who flew the a/c during the Vietnam War. Interviewing the pilots should help you out tremendously.

Hi Rob!
Thanks for the info. I'll certainly check out the F-4 Phantom Society.
By the way, I've changed it. Nicky gets shot down in 1967, over North Vietnam, flying A US Navy F-4B Phantom, and gets sent to the most notorious P.O.W. camp, besides the Hanoi Hilton, "Eagle Cage". I should have Chapter One up next week.
Thanks again.

It's a bit of a long shot, but try to get hold of the manual for an old Amiga game "Flight of the Intruder" (based on the novel of the same name by Stephen Coonts -- the novel can be worth reading too.) The manual had a wealth of information about aerial combat over Vietnam.

Hi Beardedtroll!
Hmm, would I be able to get the "Flight of the Intruder" manual in New Zealand?
James.

Better luck there than in the US, I suspect. I believe New Zealand was part of the "Amiga Empire."
Actually ... I just found it online as a PDF. I'd give you the link, but as it's probably not entiiiiiiirely legal -- get thee to Google.
