Hostage Situation

Hello again.

Am stuck finding some information out for my novel and am hoping you people can help me.

In my novel, a guy goes on the run and holds a woman hostage and demands a huge cash sum from the police. She will be held inside a derelict house in the desert. But I can't find out about what would happen to resolve the situation, such as what police units turn up and how they handle the hostage situation.

ANY information would be of use.

Who turns up is a bunch of regular police units plus the SWAT Team, a hostage negotiator, and as many snipers as they can get.

Situation resolves when the negotiator talks the guy into giving up, one of the snipers gets a clear shot and and kills the guy, or the hostage gets away or is killed (whereupon the SWAT team swarms the house - and the hostage-taker often is not alive by the time the swarming is done).

Watching John Q would help you a lot with your novel actually.
