Not necessarily. If humanity was facing impending annihilation,
would we set aside our differences and unite to save ourselves? Sure, it's possible, but because we've never faced such an threat, we can't possibly predict how we'd act. Personally, I think there'd still be a stubborn few who'd refuse to join the rest of the world, for whatever reason - and remember, 500 years from now, things are likely to be very different: politically, scientifically, technologically, etc.
But now that you've brought this up, this might be a good subject for Debate. (And I neither agree nor disagree with you about that T-rex statement.)
