Cool Narration?

I have a question about naration. I got this idea since one of my characters is a tpe of god that can see into certain peoples souls.
(Much more exciting than that!)
But if there's a live narrator, obviously speaking of the past, wouldn't readers focus more on the narrator telling the story to this unknown but interesting character (neither do anthing till the sixth book!, rather than the people in the story. Things wuld occasionally happen between the narrator and his unknown listener to keep excitement up but I don't think it would last long enough. I don't know anyone else who has ever written like this so I'm stuck! Help!

sorry, but you're not being very clear about what it is you mean here... as for what the readers would be likely to 'focus on' more, that would depend on how you write it... you have to decide what you want them to focus on most, and write your story in such a way as to bring that about...

without seeing a sample of what you mean, i can't really give you any specific advice... sounds to me as if you've bitten off more than you're ready to chew... better study how the best writers pull off what you have in mind, before you try it...

love and hugs, maia

Do you mean to say that the narrator is telling the story to the god that can see into people's souls?
If so, then you might not want the readers to focus more on the narration between the two, because storyline's are a better bet to hook readers than choice of narration.

If you could produce something with a good blend of both elements, then that would work better. It has been done a lot before, though I cant think of anything relevant right now, only something like that movie, Interview with the Vampire.

Sorry I don't know how to explain it.
If you notice how other writers tell their stories, such as Harry Potter and Sabriel, it is from these characters point of view. The narrator of my story would tell the story from another persons point of view as if the narrator wrote the book. Maybe I'n not making any sense, I'll do more research.
Thank you anyway!

you seem to be referring to a first person pov, if the narrator is meant to be the one who wrote the book... here's a rundown of povs that you should find helpful:

check them out and see which fits best...
