Native American Ritual

There is a native american ritual in which a tree is planted at the same time as a child as a symbolic twin for the child throughout life. Sometimes the placenta of the child is buried under the tree as well.

Anyone know what this is referred to as? I've tried google for the past hour and I've gotten nothing.

Hi Ilan, I have heard of this custom, but I think for you to find it you need to know what clan this custom comes from... I believe most clans do bury the placenta, but not all. You may have to get into reading some of the explorers from the 1700's and 1800's to find it. Maybe Cook, Samuel Wegg...

Best of luck

Kimberly

You probably seen these, I don't see a name for it at all. Perhaps it is such a general and widespread thing to do it isn't named?
