Also depends on what kind of bullets are in the gun. Dumdums are going to make much more than a hole, even if it is from a small-caliber handgun.

Yeah, but not all that many people are going around with dumdums these days. I don't believe I've ever fired one, and I've been around guns for about 15 years.

You seem to have a very interesting lifestyle.. to say the least

What sorts of bullets would cause the least amount of damage? Are there ever duds?

Nah, my life is boring as hell.

Duds? The only way I can think of a bullet being a 'dud' is if the gun jammed and the bullet wasn't fired at all. If the bullet leaves the gun, it's going extremely fast and anyhting that gets in the way is going to get damaged by it.

Uh...you could use blanks, they don't do as much damage. But if you're carrying a gun around with the intent to harm someone (I don't know the exact situation regarding your story), you won't be carrying blanks, because you probably won't kill someone with a blank. (btw, a blank is basically a bullet without a bullet, it's a case with gunpowder and primer, but no actual bullet)

The smaller the caliber of the bullet, the less powerful it is. For example, a .357 magnum is less powerful than a .5 S&W. However, the more powerful it is, the stronger the recoil is as well. So, you'd want to use a small caliber bullet if you wanted to do less damage.

Police-shooting "bad guys" might use them, I suppose.

Rubber bullets aren't too harmful either. Those are generally used by police during riots, or in prisons.

Depends on whether they were shooting to disable or to kill, really. Having never been a police officer, I couldn't comment.

Hmm, blanks.. I never really thought about them.. Could they shatter the bone? I would assume they could pierce the skin..

Actually, blanks might be ideal, because Ted--the bad guy-- only wanted to freak Billie out--she saw gunfire and rushed right into the setup.. however, she is tough so she fought him off, that's when Stacey grabbed his gun, and you know the rest.

Depends how close. If it's medium to long distance, it'll just leave a nasty bruise. Penetration will only occur at short distances. Theoretically, you could be killed by one, but it's unlikely.

Wait, wait. Ted has a gun, and Billie does not know if it's loaded or what, and she runs right into it? Even me, I see a gun, I tend to move away rather than towards it...

Ah, yes, but see, it's all a setup. Billie knows that Ted won't hurt her--that would be a very dumb thing for him to do anyway.

Ted's only intent is to leave the country--with Stacey--however, Stacey is supposed to be in prison, and Billie, being a cop, would never allow it. That's why he wants her unconscious--so they can get away..

Billie sees gunfire in the cabin, and rushes in thinking Ted is killing Stacey, but that's what he wants her to think..

It's very complex, but it does make sense.. And, you thought YOU didn't have a life

See, my life is straightfoward and uncomplex. It's what I like best about it

And earlier, you said nothing about unconscious. I recall you wanting to shoot her in the shoulder? That won't knock her out (maybe knock her over, haha).

Oh, no.. the shoulder shooting wasn't planned.

Billie rushes in, and Ted tries to knock her out, but, again, Billie is tough, so she manages to get back and fight him off. She actually elbows him in the throat, and is about to knock HIM out but that's when Stacey shoots her... Oh the drama..

An uncomplex life? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of living?

Oh trust me, I've done my share of living. I'm due for a few years of boring.

That sounds like a messy fight. I don't like to get too close to someone I know has a gun *grin*. Got enough scars as it is, thank you very much.

So any other dire gun/weapon/wound questions that I can help with before I go to work?
