WWII era
I'm writing a story about a soldier who was sent home from WWII with an injury. He lives in a small American/Canadian town (probably Canadian).

Now, I don't know much about America during the 1940s except what I dimmly recall from grade 10 history. Does anyone know anything about day-to-day life of an average American/Canadian during World War II, or does anyone know anything about the war - such as officer rankings, discharge routines, etc - that I could use?

Any help, or help via links, is greatly appreciated!
