I'd hazard some of the modern day ones are replicas or restored versions.

i've actually been on one... our high school graduation trip included an overnight on the chesapeake on a restored original paddle-wheeler... you can email me, if you want info...

thing is, drz, it's more like a floating old-timey hotel and saloon, than a boat... little of the above-water structure is boat-like...
