Need help finding a word...

You ever need a word that means something, and you know how to say it in several words, but don't know the single word that it defines or is similar to? That happens to me all the time. I can rearrange my sentence to use several words, when really want I want is a short, concise word that means the same thing. You can't quite use a thesaurus, since you're using multiple words instead of just a single synonym.

In this instance, I'm looking for a word that means, "prone or subject or easily open to ridicule" as in the sentence:

"Her name was silly, and prone to ridicule."

Anyone good at language that can help me find a synonym for this term? Also, if you know any webtools or forums to find things like this; look up a term from multiple words that mean the same thing, I'd really like to know!

I hope this helps, I think it's exactly what you're looking for.

(As a matter a/of [?] fact, I think I'll post this in the Writer's Resources.)

EDIT: Feel free to introduce yourself, as well. Welcome to the forums.

What about: "her name was a joke?"

Teasable? Smirk-producing?

fyi, SHE could be 'prone to ridicule others'... but her name couldn't be 'prone to ridicule'... it could be 'the subject of ridicule'... or 'the butt of jokes'...

that reverse dictionary idea is a good one... you can also look up 'prone' and 'subject' in the thesaurus for more apt alternatives that will work with the name, not the girl...
