Would that be Rhode Island? With the correct spelling you could use USGS maps & sattelite images for some of your info. Might get a few more bites at the topic as well.

With respect to our friend from Texas (which I've never visited) I've been to Rhode Island a number of times, and while some of it wasn't all that nice its hard to imagine that the whole place could be considered shit by a visitor.

In any case, its hard to give a comprehensive view of the entire New England area with a concentration on RI and ME in my response so I'll try to answer your specific questions and you can ask or PM me if you have others and I'll do what I can.

what is the scenery like?
The cities and towns are older than other parts of the country so tend to be organic in their layout. Its resonably flat near the coast, but the landscape rolls a bit and there are lots of trees. Maples are popular, as are oak and white pine. The coast is a mixture of beaches and rocky. the rocky parts tend to be built up with houses. The shoreline south of Cape Cod is more jagged and there are lots of rivers that meet the ocean there. The main coats gets rocky a hour or so north of New Hampshire which has just a bit of coast. Foliage in the fall is popular.
The people?
The people think of themselves as well educated. Must be all the schools and hospitals. Democrats. Some old money. Can be cold and private, but not mean generally. Boston is a big port and we have a very diverse melting pot culture that extends down into Providence RI and up into southern NH. I hear we're bad drivers.
What do you do for entertainment?
Culture seems rich in New England generally, but I've never lived anywhere but here so I can't compare for you.
What is the coolest thing?
Ocean to the mountains in an hour. And everything in between.
What do mapple trees smell like?
Maples don't have a particular smell really. the flowers are tiny and pale green and smell like the leaves. Which don't smell like much unless you've got them in your face.
What are the schools like there?
Public or private? Elementary or university? There are lots of schools in the area. I wouldn't know where to start without more.
Do you know any of the schools?
I went through the public system, with the exception of KG and 1st grade which was in a catholic school. Wentworth Institure of Technology in Boston, thereafter.

hope this helps.

A new high school could go just about anywhere, depending on the need. Here's a few links that might help, The Providence Journal, pictures and local stories about RI http://www.projo.com/

And heres the state web site which has links to heritage trails, with pictures and descriptions of some of the sights, as well as a list of the 39 cities and towns that make up RI http://www.ri.gov/index.php

Another little tid bit that might be useful. The Newport (RI) Jazz Festival is celebrating its 50th year in Newport this year in August. http://www.festivalproductions.net/0...z/newphist.htm Newport is on the coast and has some fantastic mansions built as summer cottages by the super rich from New York City in the late 1800s http://www.newportmansions.org/
