Writting a vampire/angel story
I want to write a story with vampires and angels in it. I'm going to borrow my friends copy of "encyclopedia of vampires" but I don't know how much good that will do me. Is there anything in general I should know about writting a vampire/angel story? any words of advice?

youre going to have to work to make this not cliche, and its going to be hard. trust me.
and if you want to involve 'real' vampires, you have to research cults and underground societies.

A good read on vampires if you haven't read it is Dracula. That may help. I like vampires I look forward to seeing your story.

My advice is the same is DH. It's going to be hard to bring something original to that genre. I've tried it myself, and after working on a novel for two years, finished, edited four times, I discarded it because it wasn't original enough.
Have your heirarchies outlined as clearly as possible. Try not to make it a good vs evil story, where the angels are good. Try not to make it a war between them (re: Underground with the delectable Kate Capinsale).
To be honest, my best advice might be think of something else to write about, but I suppose if you can bring something new to a genre that is probably 500 years old, why not have a go.

well actualy it's not angels vs vampires. I got to thinking last night about vampires and all and how I never want to write a vampire story because everyone is nearly about the same thing. I some how to to thinking of a person who is a mix between a vampire and an angel. It's not exactly logical no matter what way it's looked at, but i figured I could give it a try. but still, thanks for all the words of help, everything is appreciated ^^. and, I will read dracual, I've been wanting to for a while.

i don't think they'll end up clubbing anytime though. I'm not sure what the plot is -_- i'm trying to think of something that hasn't been done before(or at least overdone). but i'm pretty sure it'll be in medeival times.

do a lot of research via the internet... pick different types of vampires, instead of the same old bloodsucking types

Well, the thing is, the whole of vampire stories have the whole 'homoerotic dark-death underground hot sex Oh I'm so miserable suck my blood to death metal' thing as the core of their essence. None of the one's I 've read have really explored the social situation of the vampires, or their existential thoughts beyond something that doesn't lead to two of them going down on oneanother. Darkness in litarature has been deformed into bad, trendy sex horror. One of the reasons I don't care for Anne Rice (but that woman has a lovely writing style).
And typically, when people add other mythical creatures into the mix, they can't resist the mix of making it into A vs. B trendy-crap.
The horror genre is stuck in a continum of new age mock-conformity, and I hate to see the demise of such a nice genre. Like Stephen King. The man was influential in his day, but his works are typically shallow. The only decent horror writer working today is Clive Barker.
But, anyhow, don't attempt to make it anything more than you want it to be, and youm ight turn out an unexpected gym.
