Height
What sort of height would a 14 year old girl be?
What about a 10 year old boy?
Thanks....
(I'm looking for averages here...)

I worked with early teen girls for two years...and to me there didn't seem to be a norm.
I guess like 5'3, 5'4 is average...but I worked with mostly black girls. I believe white girls are, on average, a few inches shorter, hispanics a few inches shorter than white girls...
Ten year old boys are like 4'5 I think.

Since I taught school and saw soooo many 10 year old boys... I would say like 4'5" or so... some as tall as 5'0" As for girls, I was only in middle school for a year, so my guess would be like 5'4" or 5'5"...depends though..

Height
I think that the predictions for height are a bit off. The average height of a woman is like 5'2" or so. So for a 14 year old girl, being above that would be a bit beyond the norm.
The height for the male seems about right.
A person's height is heavily influences by their ethnicity. You might want to start with that, figure out what is the character's ethnic make up, before giving them a height.

well, my sister's 14 right now, and she's about five-five. but i also know 14 year olds that are as short as four-ten. so i'd say about five foot.
as for a 10 year old, probably about three, three and a half feet tall.
just one person's opinion

in addition to race and ethnicity, average height will also depend on the country in question... danes are now officially the tallest people in the world, while indonesians and japanese are shorter than most, as are people generally, who live on overcrowded islands...
kids of the well-to-do are usually taller than those living in poverty, since diet plays a major role in children's growth and development... so, even within a specific country, you'll have to consider the economic level of the kids you want to depict...
what i'd like to know is, why do you need to know?... what is there in your story that makes you have to describe these kids down to how tall they are?

Well, I'm 14 and I'm 5'6".... o.O But I come from a tall family.
But it's true: most countries have a different average height then the nexty because of the climate, foods, and population. Geography can play in too. (some people might think they're supposed to live in cramped caves or something...)
America, however, is very flexible in heights (with a little background on heiritage and stuff, you'll probably get it right). Good luck!
