"I am reading an autobiography of Mae West. She is really a fantastic writer, you know? I don't think she had a ghost writer on it, either. It mentions the editor's name, but no co-authoring. Was it required to disclose that information in the past?

GG. Since she wrote many of her own screenplays, I could imagine that she wrote her biography. Is it really that good? I would have expected a series of risqué clichés. I guess Hollywood never has fairly represented most people eh? Enjoy. huni

I do enjoy the way it's written. Here is the first paragraph of chapter one. It is what drew me in:

"The Brooklyn I was born in, near the end of the 19th century, was still a city of churches, with their great bronze bells walloping calls to the faithful from early dawn, and a city of waterfront dives where the old forest of the spars of sailing ships was rapidly being replaced by funnels and the Sand Street Navy Yard already had a reputation for girl chasers. Gentlemen, and deer, ran wild in Prospect Park."

One reference to Goodness Had Nothing To Do With It says it had a ghostwriter, author Stephen Longstreet (1907-2002). He also worked on Hoagy Carmichael's autobiography, wrote a wide range of books under his own name, and was an artist.
