French History

I am currently building a story set in France during the 16th century, and I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good book concerning these times in France. Anything goes, I suppose - for I try to read and learn as much as I can.

If the 16th century was the time of Jeanne d'Arc, I could help you. I know basically the whole Joan of Arc story. I'm not a book... but I could still help you... I guess...

I think that Joan of Arc was few centuries before the 16th century, altough I cannot say for sure since I do not know the story that well. I could always appreciate some help, though. I'm particularly interested in Louis XIV and the general mood of the people during his reign, and basically of his bloodline. The Internet is of course an excellent source for information, but I think I need a poet's view on things - so to say - besides the stone cold facts. Thus, I think I best try to get some books from writers of that era first.

Anyhow, don't get scared if I end up asking you something at some point, poetofthenight.

Thanks anyway

Okay. Well... hmm. I know have a list of a bunch of literature that was produced probably around that time... but I don't know if that would help you any. In my computer I've saved my huge report on France. About half of it is on its history... so if you ask a question at random I should (hopefully) be able to answer it!

your best bet for finding books is to use the handy-dandy amazon/b&n search engines...

the library of congress search function is also very good for specifying subject matter and pulling up all that's ever been copyrighted in the us dealing with same...

it's a very rich period, what with da vinci dying in the arms of francois I and the religious wars ending in henry IV's conversion to catholicism... have fun!
