Suspense is key.

I'll give you an example : the movie Jeepers Creepers.

The thing had my attention for the first 3/4 or so. It was great--you never saw anything of the monster but tiny glimpses. You had to wonder just what it was.

Then...the producers dropped their whole hand on the table. They showed the monster and destroyed whatever sense of the unknown (and therefore, frightening).

Your ending doesn't necessarily have to have a clear resolution--unless it's unsettling, disturbing, etc. I look for a horror movie that climaxes at the very end. Happily-ever-after stuff don't fly here.

Like I said, the greatest human fear is that of the unknown.

Thanks for the Responses. The reason Im asking is Im working on a horror/thriller screenplay and I know the basic ending but I want to do the ever loved Twist.

What I mean by the "What do you expect from an ending" Question is this, Do you always expect the good guys to win? Do you go in expecting the bad guy to be obvious or a Never saw that coming type of person?

This is my first SP and Im trying to be creative....

Ha when I read the title I thought, what keeps me in my seat? Now why on earth would I want to be kept in my seat

Horror movies. I love to slowly sink in my chair and hide my eyes until I can't stand it anymore then they pop open to embrace the thrill head on. I like the unexpected twists, though it seems to be getting harder and harder to find those movies. I can usually pick out the person before the end draws near.

Agreed. That would be a great story if it was done effectively... Of course I'm sure it's already been done though.

I prefer things that I didn't see coming. Nothing is more disappointing than being able to predict exactly how things are going to end, at the beginning of the story. Go with the unexpected.

I also prefer movies where the hero doesn't always win. American films, stories, etc...feature that way too much. Having the hero die, or having things not work out for the "best" is always an interesting twist.
