Are you looking for an average or what?
As for the record, I don't, really.

I used to take part in extracurricular activities: French, badminton and rowing.

I was wondering what yes or no meant as it seems sort of repetitive

I think they are important but I am wondering if you mean in highschool as far as making a difference into getting into school or just a basic...yes, they are important.

I think they have many benefits outside of whether or not they are just important as sitting on a college or high school transcript, such as: getting to know others with similar interests, learning outlet that can be enjoyable, and also gaining experience for possible future choices.

Extra-curricular activities probably saved me
from becoming a hoodlum when I was growing
up. The debate team, drama, band - even the
game of Dungeons and Dragons played by me
and several friends twice a week after school -
they all helped keep me off the streets (where
I sometimes ended up anyway) and were most
definitely instrumental in helping to shape the
type of person I became later in life.

Without those activities to support me as I grew
up, I'm positive I'd be just another broke-ass
thug talkin smack to any guy who walked by
and happened to look in my direction.

Instead, I'm a broke-ass brainiac who talks
smack to any hapless person on the internet
who accidentally posts in my direction. Just
kidding. I'm a graphic designer and I run a
modeling website - photography and design go
hand-in-hand, after all. I own a home, I have
a long-time girlfriend and a beautiful 6 year old
son and things are good. I bet my after-school
activities helped me get here.

Yes, I think they are; they help you be a more well-rounded, well-educated person. Plus, the people who take it are usually truly interested (unlike in required courses like math), so you meet people with similar interests.

Joining in EC activities allows for that "all rounded" education that many of the scholarship makers are looking for. In addition EC activities help keep students interested in what's going on IN school by having more friends and more learning opportunities. This in turn keeps students on the track towards college.
