Multiplex Theatre Projectors

As I understand it, the 2000-foot (~20 minute) movie reels are spliced on 6000-foot (almost 1 hour) "platters ", and platter changeovers are automated. So, the multiplex projectionist only needs to push buttons to start, stop and perhaps supervise the rewind on each movie.

(a) Is this correct? On a two-hour movie, would he have to visit it at the platter changeovers, or only at the end? Is rewinding fully automated?

(b) Does the typical multiplex have 3-platter (~ 3-hour) capability? Is there a physical limit to the number of platters?
