This should sound morbid, but I need it!

I want to try and write a novelette about, among other things, war. Is there any information on the letters to home of a dead soldier? I know it soudns terrible to want this research, but...

I'm sure there'd be thousands dating from WWII alone, try a google search maybe.

Do you mean, death letters from the soldiers, I.E. 'What to do if I die', or letters the army sends to the relatives?

I remember once I was doing this project on WWII, and I came across this site that had countless letters from war. I printed some out and put some in my little "memory box" that I made for the project.

Here's the site: http://pastvoices.com/ You just got to browse around, but they have a helluva lotta letters for you to see first hand what the letters were like.

Deadally, I don't have any input on how to go about your research but I like the idea and wish you luck!

There's a really good one from that play that now escapes me where the main character is Homer and it is during like WWI and his brother is killed - if memory is correct they read the letter in the play - can't remember the play -it is a classic though had to read it for High School honors english - and there was a movie version with Mickey Rooney. But in the play the letter was dear mr and mrs we regret to inform you ect, or even saving private ryan or if you wanna go there the Karate Kid -Mr Miyagi reads the letter about his wife being killed in the camp or whatever.

there's a current book just out recently, titled, 'last letters home'... check it out... if you're referring to the form letters that the army and other services send out, they're just formal notifications...

did you just want to know how one is worded?... you can get that by googling... the dod may even have that info on their site...
