Things that can go wrong: Various Scenarios

Ok, Im new, so first I would like to say hi.

Hi!!!!!!

Ok, I need research for a book Im writing (sci-fi), basically I need to know basically everything that can go wrong in the following situations:

1. Ok, a dozen guys are in an alien vessel, they need to take controll of the ship but are outnumbered 1k to 1. Kinda like the movie Tears of the Sun, but in a space ship. The ship is really, really low tech. No shields, not super weapons, but weapons that use low power lasers, stuners, EM wave, bullets. Environment is simple, NOTHING ORGANIC, as to say everything is metal, kinda like a WWII bunker or something.

2. Same as 1. but with some differences. Basically, it one ship and a fortress planet, along with differnent asteriods and such, who fight against a huge armada trying to take the Sol system. Nothing fancy, just every thing that can go wrong. Technical, weapons, you name it.

3. Same as 1. but in a bombed out city. The main character needs to cross half the city and get to a chopper, cause the city gonna be nuked. Name anything that can go wrong.

Thanx!!!!!

an EMP device is not exactly low-tech...but anyway, this is gonna take a while, so i'll come back later and post a few ideas.secondly, there is a comic book, which deals exactly with this subject. How many things can go wrong in a specific situation. It could be good for inspiration...

Why would anyone want to nuke a bombed-out city? Is this just like hypothetical? I don't think I understand.

As for things that can go wrong, you can always throw in lots of nature, a convenient double-cross, technical malfunction, out of ammunition, surprise ambush, etc.

Hypothetical, yes. It also demonstrates irony exceptionally well.............

I can think of stuff with characters later, but I like the whole out of ammo thing. Life is always fun when you need to bash your enemy instead of blowing the crap out of him with a machine gun.............

well, for the city one,

1) your character could catch a stray bullet

2) your chopper could swerve and crash

3) a building could fall in his path

4) a case of the runs could send him frantically searching for a bathroom

its all subjective to enviroment

I fail to understand the question you are asking. If I was writing a story, these are the things I would be writing; you are asking for your story basically. There are half a million things that could go wrong with any situation, you as the writer should want to work that out according to your story. No one here knows what went on in the past, what the history of the situation is, the character's personality, what he normally messes up, etc..etc..etc..

Aliens breath different gases, (or maybe even liquids) than human characters.

The aliens turn out to be shapeshifters. In fact, they can read your mind and change into what you love most, soft spots. Ei, your mother, kittens, puppies, that dog you had that died when you were 10, newborn babies, your son, daughter, or spuose. You can tell whose vain by who ends up fighting themselves.

Aliens turn out to be the good guys?

Humans are dealing with coopative single celled organisms that constantly divide. In fact, they reproduce via violent conflict. Think blender anologies...

Everyone loses, even if the heros win. Punic war.

That's all I have for now, I'lll post more later.
