    Ogden Nash anyone?

OK, admittedly, I'm not much of a poetry guru, but I happen to think his poetry his hilarious and sometimes even profound at the same time.

    Take this one, for instance:

    A Word to Husbands

    To keep your marriage brimming
With love in the loving cup,
    Whenever you're wrong, admit it;
    Whenever you're right, shut up.
    Anyone else like his stuff?

"The problem with a kitten is that
When it grows up it's always a cat."

That's the only Nash poem I can think of right now, but they're usually easy to remember. Scores points from me.

Well, everyone knows the "Candy is dandy but liquor is quicker" line.

I think my favorite is: (And I'm doing this from memory so may make errors)

    THE PANTHER

The panther is like the leopard
Except that it hasn't been peppered

Should you perceive a panther crouch
    Prepare to say ouch

Better yet, if called by a panther
    Don't anther

He's got a thing for animals in his poetry, doesn't he? I rather like 'The Guppy'.

    Whales have calves,
    Cats have kittens,
    Bears have cubs,
    Bats have bittens,
    Swans have cygnets,
    Seals have puppies,
But guppies just have little guppies.

If you like Nash, you might just enjoy Spike Milligan's poetry.

    Bump

Things that go 'bump' in the night
Should not really give one a fright.
It's the hole in each ear
    That lets in the fear,
That, and the absence of light!

    Spike Milligan

"I believe that all things aspire to the state of music."

I love Ogden Nash! Here's one my favorites:

    The Wombat

The wombat lives across the seas,
    Among the far Antipodes.
He may exist on nuts and berries,
    Or then again, on missionaries;
    His distant habitat precludes
    Conclusive knowledge of his moods,
But I would not engage the wombat
In any form of mortal combat.

Dorthy Parker sneaks up on Ogden Nash:

Parker was asked to use horticulture in a sentence while lunching at the Alonquine.

"You can lead a whore to culture but you cant make her think.", she promtly replied.

If Nash were one of her friends visiting her in the hospital after her abortion, he would have heard.

"This is what I get for putting all my eggs in one bastard."

I think they would have made a lovely couple even though one had the poisen pen.

An ostrich has very long legs
Good job it sits down to lay its eggs.
