Found beaten, battered
bloodied, blue
lights turned out
and heart re-glued
scars from fights, gunshot
knives, fire, and yes even a skew
line up the only thing that is keeping it all in...
She was the symbol of his patience
Life went by the mercy of his hand
words would come
Rise up in her throat
and pass as only a sigh of guilt
while the darkest blood was grinded in her teeth
She told herself it was her fault, never his. That it was she who had done wrong and on that night she would cry to him "You're right! You're right!"
And I knew he would do it... From the day I turned 14 I knew he would kill one of us. But why her? Why today? Not on Mama's birthday... not ever. Someone just please, stop him.
I watched his fist, his class ring, come down on her again. Over and over making a beat with the thuds...
Besides the fire I felt no heat.
Besides the flash of metal I saw nothing but blood.
Besides the screams of my own frustration I heard nothing but the phone call that followed.
"Hello, my name is Eris Hence and I just killed the man who took my sister's breath away."
