Not a haiku but there's a haiku quality to the feel of this one. Another short piece that works for me.

Damien,

I've read a couple of your posts without commenting. Largely, because I'm a novice, but I have liked what I read. I liked 'splayed leaf'. I'm wondering if you could take out 'former' in line three since 'I once' sort of implies formerly. Just a thought. I enjoyed this.
