Once-Man's Land
Down fathoms,
who knows how many,
across this blue-white expanse,
the kites circle higher and higher,
the drafts of the breath,
of the mountain man alight them,
a great green skinned feature covering the distance,
the forgotten yellow man,
laying dormant over which was once his,
a hump for a back,
A rocky precipice,
a countenance,
The skin is broken by patches,
of metal and plastic,
sores gaping where blackness now stands,
smoke rising from the plumes of once brilliant hair.
