Tranquillity Base here (an edit)

Tranquillity Base here

Humans, fresh from shearing
off fur, proud of the words
howls had become, stared
into the night, the stars
a reminder of gentle arms
forever missed,

moved themselves
out of the shadows of sticks
and stones
to implements of bronze
and productive wars -

big, heavy buses, shoes
shaped with cork and leather, metal
nails, heavy glue, buildings, bricked
and solid, linen shirts, roles
and words set
in tablets of stone.

A weight built into everything built,
in the dreams that carried us
into the earth, visions of thick waters, coins
for anchors, wells dug
into the depths of myth.

As children then, behind the last
Heavy, wooden desks, the stain of chalk
And the scratch of slate behind us, we watched
snowy television sets, our Oedipus hearts jealous
of astronauts stepping
where none could hope to go - the first
giant step
kissed the lack of weight -
a chain reaction occurred.

The process to surrender and move
into air, plastic, alloys
and the vapours
of nothing much matters anymore.
