Ride the Night
Ride through the night on wild steeds
Through the valleys of your dreams
Let your thoughts review your deeds
Until your tainted heart screams
Ride away, as fast as you can
Can you ever escape your past?
Run and forget that you’re a man
Your heart will fail at the last
Can you still hear them call
For help, while you looked away?
Can you ever forget them all?
Can you believe in a new day?
Coward, they called you, were they right?
If not, why do you run through the night?
Or does courage still lie in your heart?
Can you find yourself from worlds apart?
Ride until the night is through
And the dead lie behind you
As you look at the birthing sun
Is it time to sing a new song?
Do you wish for death, to free you of sin?
Or are you brave enough to fight and live?
Once before you took, can you now give
Back, and hear through the din
Of your raging thoughts, the voices of reason
Who call you still from beyond the grave?
Do they urge you to forget your treason?
Is it your soul they wish to save?
Do the dead talk to you once more
And tell you it is not your choice to die?
That you cannot escape, as you did before
If they do, does your heart know why?
They urge you to live, so they can too
And live on in your memory and soul
For them, is there anything you can do
Other than be yourself, and be whole?
Fight for the living, live for the dead
Free of remorse and free of dread
You owe yourself to their memory
Embrace life and let yourself free
Live for them, they will live on in you
