I came to, running
realizing that I had been climbing the giant serpent
for as long as I could remember.
Its curled up a concrete tower
that rises high
into the heavens.
Its head snapping throughout the sky
at intoxicating clouds
and using its lances to stab venom into those that move along his back,
putting them to sleep,
limp bodies roll back down until sink
boiling in Hades.
I can see my prize:
A golden light shining through a single window.
My Sun,
my lifeforce,
trapped inside.
.
.
.
Finally,
As I reach the head,
"Be careful of each step," I say;
Ghostly illusions
bribe you for your steps,
spewing every salepitch,
spitting it at you.
I master control over the snake's clumsy automaton actions:
Unable to shake me off, it becomes my power.
"To the window!" I go.
But my jaws aren't strong enough
to eat such a sight:
I stared at God,
so ignorant that I didn't even consider wearing a pair of sunglasses,
and was blinded.
Back to the bottom.
