Deserter
Back and forth, pacing
in this desert that I've built.
Looking for an oasis
in this water that I've spilled.
Hoping for a flower to
spring up from the sand,
instead of looking for clues
in the palms of my hands.
Search the lines
to see if I
can pinpoint where I fell,
then tear the skin
in hopes that I'll be
farther from this hell.
My life doesn't flash before me,
fate is much crueler than that.
It streams at a sluggish pace
so I catch the details in what I lack.
I get a cold shoulder from the sun
and expect the same from the moon.
Just close my eyes
take a dive
and be swallowed by the dunes.
