A Message From Dorothy
For my brother Peter.
Weep not my son, for I am free
Pain and strife no longer torment me
In the hands of our Lord I rest peacefully
I know how deeply you feel my loss
But I want you not to bear that cross
For happily in heaven I now reside
Although I miss you by my side
My soul has been freed of its shell
No longer ill - now completely well
Feel joyful my suffering is finally done
And remember always, I love you my son
So do not shed one more tear
You may not see me, but I'm still near
I'll watch over you until the time
Your hand is once again in mine
Then you too will be able to see
How peaceful it is to be set free
So please, my son, weep not for me

I have a thought. You've written a lot about your mom's recent death, which is very understandable, that is what is on your mind. My suggestion is to try and write a memory poem about some of the pleasant times you had with your mom. The hope is that those thoughts will be on your mind, they will help the healing. Give it a try, some wonderful poetry could come out such deep feelings.
I'll hush now.

I agree with Van. The poetry you are writing now may be therapeutic in theory, but how much more so than writing about the good times?

Hi Chestersdaughter,
I've read a few of your poems and I agree with vangoghsear. I understand your need to release your emotions in your words--I've done it my whole life and it can be quite healing, I hope it is for you. My most sincerest sympathies on your loss.
Keep writing and trying different things. Write stories and song lyrics. Play with your poetry forms, haiku, cinquain or couplet. Sometimes less is more when the words you choose have a large impact.
With my own writing, I find my most successful pieces are the ones I'm not so emotionally attached to. And the ones that I love the most aren't necessarily my best pieces.
Keep writing!

Absolutely. Any writing can be therapeutic, a cathartic release of the bad feelings and a well spring of the good ones. I just thought you might enjoy putting some of the good times down on paper (or screen) as well. Keep writing.
