The Significance of a Flower

Behold yon Lily of the Valley!
Its white petals which unfold
From atop the greenest stem the hue of which
Has ne'er been seen in all the Earth.
What beauty is there such as this
That you can name?
Alas! it perishes in but the span of thought,
Gone forever, never to be reciprocated
In any work of art here or hereafter.
How many will weep at its passing?
How many of you shall mourn its loss,
Attempt to make immortal its undying beauty?
Yet how many of you shall continue
With little thought,
To kill the unborn baby?

The first 'beauty' needs to be fixed, And the word 'reciprocated' seems clumsy when placed against the other words in context. I liked it though, it reminds me of an older-style of poetry when odes to flowers could contain many hidden meanings. You should write one for the arum lily, it's a weed here in Australia.

huni is an unknown quantity at this point
At first I thought ' another old fashion attempt at an ode to a flower'. I was wrong though. The juxtaposition of the poets attention to the flower and the death of an unborn baby is very well done. The shock of the last sentence, makes this. regards huni.

Thanks to all for their comments. I had no idea there was an older style of poetry similar to this; I was just expressing my thoughts in the best way I could find at the time.

Thanks to Ravenari for catching my mistake; it was a typo in the process of converting from paper to computer. Thanks again.
