Trivialities of My Life
I wrote this poem actually for a school assignment but I liked it so here it goes.
Once upon a time I truly lived! I had inspiration and vision!
My very life was a story and my hand could do no wrong!
I was once happy…
Happy in a time when I was not plagued by these loathsome burdens.
Back then I had not to fear the tests and trials of gods,
Nor the judgment of them, nor their scorn when I fail.
I was free and careless and could do as I and I alone pleased,
But now I am given the weight of responsibility,
They expect perfection from me, the best I can do.
But to do ones best they must devote everything to the task.
I have more than just my studies, more than just endless calculations.
The idea that knowledge of trivial facts and foolish theories
can decide my future is infuriating!
They weigh me down with useless nonsense,
Claiming it is essential, that it is important.
Lies!
Teach me what I need to survive,
Not of the endeavors of those long dead,
Or the endless calculations of old hermits!
Give me my pen and paper and thoughts and I will survive!
Once upon a time, I survived.
