Scheming Children
The children gathered in the night.
The foghorn sounded a warning
to all the ships at sea;
there’s evil here tonight.
There’s evil here tonight.
The children all agreed – and signed in blood.
The church bell’s peal cracked the icy air;
there’s evil here tonight.
There’s evil here tonight.
The children took their places,
in groups from two to four.
The moon covered its eyes with clouds.
There’s evil here tonight.
There’s evil here tonight.
The parents laid the boxes on the floor,
the children waited, then snuck in through the door.
The plot was hatched - at the boxes they’d dive,
they couldn’t wait for Christmas to arrive.

They are little rugrats, aren't they? Mine isn't old enough to be causing too much trouble, but I'm sure she'll be running around getting into things soon enough. Very cute. It sounded like a horror movie for a little while though, which just added to the ending.

Wayne,
I like this one, but I think you want "peal" instead of peel in the second stanza.
I suggest you file this away and post it again next December.
