To my Brother

My brother was my role model, my mentor and my friend,
we had our share of fights as kids, but they would quickly end.
Whenever I had questions it was Donald I would ask,
it seemed that he’d be willing to take on any task.

He was a year ahead of me, and so he blazed the way,
if I was at a loss for words, he’d know just what to say.
He finally went off to college to get his Ph.D.
I was a jewelry manager while raising my fam’ly.

The years went by and we both moved to cities far apart,
we stay in touch by e-mail, but I keep him in my heart.
The bond between two brothers will never fade away,
it was strong when we were kids, and it’s just a strong today.

Now we’re both grandfathers with gray highlights in our hair,
but we know that if we need someone our brother’s always there.
I never said it, growing up it’s just not what you do,
so pretend this is a “Valentine” when I say: I love you.
