The king lives in the basement
The king lives in the basement.
He's bitter and he's old.
Stones leap to defend him.
Beneath his soles is gold.

The king lives in the basement.
Worry lines scratch his face.
He's hurt inside by rancid pride,
His palace reduced to waste.

To attack him is foolish.
Stones rend and gouge and tear
Flesh from the living body,
Pump death where there was air.

I've got to get to know him;
Tyrants need their friends.
Crack his face wide open
So smiling misery ends.

The king lives in the basement
He's lonely and he's old
The king lives in the basement

i'm getting the feel of introspection here. nice imagery. my mind is having all sorts of fun with the possible symbolism in this piece.

my mind keeps telling me that this poem is about elvis.

everytime someone mentions "the king" i think of elvis. so to me, this poem is all about elvis.

are you okay with that?
