Drifting Thought
Drifting Thought
by Gerry Whitney
Drowning, drifting, with dampened senses, “Where to?” I ask myself, as I drive, aimlessly, across the sprawling metropolis in the deep slumber of a crisp, winter night. This hibernating city, limbs stretching towards the sky and horizons both, cradles so great a number of souls, all yearning to reach that same unobtainable pinnacle of being, above all others, that commands the respect and admiration of all who happen to be underneath. But of course, it’s not their fault - or yours - it’s simply fate, time, and the whims of whichever vengeful deity who happens to be nearest. The future, both bright and misty at the same time, holds so much for so few, and so little for so many - for that is the way the universe tends to unfold.
